For over four years I've written this blog in an effort to fulfill an inner desire to share some of my thoughts and experiences with you.
From a tiny following, the blog has blossomed, giving a small voice to a not so insignificant segment of Quebec Anglo society that the mainstream media doesn't seem to address. It has been, to say the least, entirely rewarding and I've kept going far beyond where I first thought I'd go solely because of the readership.
But all things come to an end.
With the election of the Liberals and the prospect of the PQ dim for the short and immediate term, there is less of an impetus for me to continue.
Can we as Anglos and Ethnics claim victory over sovereigntist forces?
Perhaps yes, but the real problem was never sovereignty, but rather the treatment of Anglos and Ethnics by all Quebec governments.
It is sad to see that we continue to be viewed as interlopers, a people to be controlled not appreciated, an alien nation within the legitimate body politic of French Quebec.
Too harsh?
Nope, I don't think so. I continue to believe that if Quebec chooses to remain in Canada, it is simply an economic decision, the alternative of an independent and truly French Quebec a dream too costly and unrealistic for a generation whose real values include Facebook and Nintendo.
I remain convinced that if Quebec had the wealth of Alberta's oil sands, this province would have overwhelmingly voted for independence years ago.
It's really just about the money and when Quebecers finally realized how much money Canada lavishes upon them, the independence movement withered.
Such is the reality of our Quebec society, locked into a loveless marriage of convenience, forever unhappy and unfulfilled but financially comfortable, a difficult trade off to make.
As for myself, I look forward to the summer, sipping margaritas by the backyard pool, leaving the bitching and moaning to others, God knows, I've done my share.
To those who have been faithful readers and contributors I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your interest, friendship and lively conversation.
I would never have come this far without you.
and so I fade to black....
I'll leave the comments section open for a while and the blog itself open for research purposes.
Thank you all once again.....
PHILIP BERLACH
Thank you Mr Berlach.
ReplyDeleteYour post criticizing soccer did this closure for me. Clearly you ran out of themes to blog about.
ReplyDeleteThank you
ReplyDelete@Mr. B.
ReplyDeleteYou've been a Class Act and we Thank you for your insights...always enlightening and inspirational. I must be honest I am profoundly disappointed right now but completely understand your decision. You asked if it is at all possible for Allos and ethnics to claim victory over sovereigntist forces, and the jury is still out on that one. This blog however, went a long way in containing their potential for damage by allowing people to convey the truth about this province, and exposing the raw and unadulterated reality that minorities are subjected to on a daily basis, and that mainstream media fails and is unwilling to tackle. That was the shear force and power of this blog. The second truth is that we must remain vigilant through every medium available to us today, especially social media, so that we can continue to contain the abuse our communities still endure.
Mr. B. I hope you reconsider and continue this very important work, it is essential and necessary for our future generations, this is no small thing! If you don't ...a sincere and heartfelt..Thank you!
(I can just see all the venomous seppies breathing a sigh of relief this morning....mmm).
"...and we Thank you for your insights."
Deletewhen were you given spokesperson responsibilities mate?!? please speak for yourself from now on.
Thank you, you indeed provided a lucid voice to the anglo community, and also to bilingual quebecers, that do share the natuonalist credo ir view of things
ReplyDeleteyou mean the canada natonalist credo? what's that? and more importantly, how can you not respect quebec nationalists when you admit being a nationalist of some other sort yourself?!?
DeleteThank you for sharing your thoughts for all this time - it has always been interesting, if not prophetic! I am sad to see you and this blog go but am sure you have other, exciting projects ahead (be they political or merely involve a good scotch, slippers and the latest edition of The Gazette!).
ReplyDeleteThank you for the laughs and getting us all thinking and involved about this strange beast that is Quebec politics. And don't hesitate to chime in again if the desire to speak up on the Charbonneau report is too strong ;)
i think angryphones will stay put when the charbonneau report comes out. they won't want to hinder lpq's chances of containing the separatist drive once again. better a crook than a separatist as they say. right mate?
DeleteOh Editor - I feel like crying! This blog has helped us through so many bad times but I understand your desire to be "out from under" now that things are a bit quieter on the political front but please re-consider should the need arise again in the future! You gave us an outlet we would not have had otherwise and it is and was much appreciated! I will miss reading all the posts (except the trolls of course) and hope your contributors keep up the fight necessary to keep our country together. Thank you for all your hard work and the best of luck.
ReplyDelete"I feel like crying"
DeleteIf you cry, I cry! ;(
"Oh Editor - I feel like crying!"
Deleteyou were always too emotional for this kind of discussion cutie003. mix hatred and sadness and you get a cutie003.
Sorry to see you decide to stop writing, but I understand. I wish you the best of luck in the future, and if the desire to write returns someday I will be sitting here ready for your comments. Thanks again for your hilarious articles, and enjoy whatever you do in the future.
ReplyDeleteSadly, no matter who is in power in Quebec, the French only language bigots will not do anything for the English speaking community.
ReplyDeleteYou have done your best, but the reality is, over 5 decades of anti – English language bigotry, racism, and hatred has continued and will continue…no matter who is in power in Quebec.
Quebec is a lost cause and the same french only bigots are doing the same thing outside Quebec…all in the name of this phony bilingual (code for French) BS spreading like a bad disease all over the country.
Congrats on all the good work you have done, all the best…
Keep your eyes open people…things are not getting better.
I wonder if readers have considered just how good the EDITOR was with his predictions, almost all of them spot on.
ReplyDeleteFour months before the last election he gave us this post PQ Blows Its Chance in which he uncannily predicted that the Charter debate was over, that the PQ wouldn't win the election and that Quebec finances would soon be exposed as in shambles. All in just one post.
What other political commentator could do as well.
We shall miss him.
Someime in the early 70s, before I could vote, I heard P.E. Trudeau, then Prime Minister, state how good government makes for lousy television and vice versa. I guess the same is true for all media. Nothing like clowns and boobs to keep reporters clicking at the keyboard (or formerly putting pen to paper).
ReplyDeleteI had an uneasy feeling I was going to read an editorial of this sort before too long because Dr. Couillard is on honeymoon. I sincerely doubt he'll be the benevolent premier all Anglophones hope he'll be including a regular contributor with whom I have jousted many times over this.
Thanks for all the thought and energyyou put into this blog, and for bringing the best and worst out of me anyway, if not others. There is nothing I wrote in this blog I would take back, and I probably disclosed aspects of my life beyond others, but that's OK.
Enjoy the summer. We sure waited long enough for one, but your May was nicer than ours. Hopefully it will keep getting nicer.
Mazel tov for the future.
"It is sad to see that we continue to be viewed as interlopers, a people to be controlled not appreciated, an alien nation within the legitimate body politic of French Quebec."

Mr. Berlach, I've really enjoyed your posts in the year or so that I've been reading them. You're a bit of an inspiration to me and I feel that the non-separatist community in Quebec still needs lucid thinkers like you to get the pro-Canada word out. Maybe your stepping back is a good sign, but your clear thoughts on the dysfunctional aspects of Quebec society are still needed.
ReplyDeleteIn any case, thank you for caring and I'd like to believe that if circumstances change for the worse, 'No Dogs' may make a comeback.
Merci, and as René Lévesque said, "A la prochaine fois."
why are you not a separatist rahul majumdar?!?
DeleteThanks for everything.
ReplyDeleteI may not have always agreed with everything you wrote but I always appreciated the candidness and insightfulness with which you presented your arguments and/or point of view it always gave me food for thought and arguments/views to reflect on.
This is the only blog that I read actively and will miss it very much. Like others have mentioned I hope you will reconsider and come back. You have provided not only a voice but a place we can direct people to at least challenge their views (even if they are unlikely to change) and discuss the important things going on in Quebec that affect our lives.
Enjoy your margaritas by the backyard pool.
Cheers
Mr Berlach,
ReplyDeleteI can't begin to express how disappointed I am that I won't be able to look forward to reading new content from you. Your blog has been a part of my regular reading for at least 3 years, if not longer.
I hate ending, but want to wish you all the best. Thank you for being such a sage voice in our community.
I can't blame the Editor for closing up shop.
ReplyDeletePersonally, since the PQ was so brutally decimated in the last election and their prospects looking grimmer with what's left of their team (re: Lisee and Drainville as potential leaders) and an extremist like Beaulieu now heading up the BQ, the wind has been taken out of my sails too.
For the time being (that being the next 4 to 5 years), there really is very little to fight for.
We've run the rats out of town and now the focus must shift to a crumbling economy and infrastructure.
Thank you Phil for helping us vent and connect and network not only for the past four years, but most especially during the 18 looooong months that the PQ held power.
Looking back on it now, that 18 months was a necessary evil and I wouldn't change it if I could - it lead to something great in the end.
Encore, merci.
Like others, I'm very disappointed to hear that you are retiring your blog. You sound defeated and depressed about Quebec's state of affairs in your sign off. I like to think that the independence movement is withering and that the future of Quebec and the rest of the country is better off because of it. Your interesting and insightful blogs about the political happenings in la belle province enriched my understanding of the place. Thank you for all of your efforts over the years. I truly hope this is not the last we will hear from you but if it is then best wishes to you and good luck on your next adventure.
ReplyDeleteI am saddened to see this chapter of your life come to an end, but I look forward to what the future may hold. All of our friends and family have been astonished and impressed about all that you have been able to accomplish here, and I for one share the sentiment.
ReplyDeleteIt is hard to say goodbye to NoDogs but fortunately for me I can hear your rants whenever I feel like it.
From all of us in Brooklyn, thanks Dad!
You have a dad that makes all of us envious. Great man with an open mind and heart. I hope he enjoys his family during this respite from the nightmare that makes up quebec politics.
Delete+1! It continues to be disheartening to see that even after all these years, Quebec separatists are even now emotionally resorting to the trite “Quebec-bashing” cliché rather than objectively disputing the facts as they have been presented and with which they claim to disagree. That is the foundational reason why they’ve always failed, even after so many decades of nationalism.
Delete@r.s
Delete"resorting to the trite “Quebec-bashing” cliché rather than objectively disputing the facts..."
please provide examples of quebec bashing accusations that were made to dismiss a fact.
WHA???
ReplyDeleteI am totally shocked and saddened that this blog will be ending. I don't think there is another website that is as instructive and insightful from the anglo Quebecer perspective than this one.
But there is a glimmer of hope that Philip will at some point come back to actively working the blog when he writes:
"With the election of the Liberals and the prospect of the PQ dim for the short and immediate term, there is less of an impetus for me to continue."
The Liberals, of course, are about 85% as separatist as the PQ is and 100% as human-rights-violating as the PQ is...so if this is Philip's standard of whether or not he will participate in the blog I have full confidence that sooner rather than later the Liberals will do something that will get his goat and he will feel the need to return.
And I am thankful to him that he sees the need to leave the blog open "for research purposes" and I would implore him to leave the comments section open always for this purpose as well.
Interestingly, Tony, I figured you'd be the heir apparent under the circumstances considering you wrote an on-line book/exposé. Sadly, Howard Galganov changed subjects deciding to become an Obama basher. He went to great legal expense to fight for freedom of choice on signs in Ontario, let alone Quebec.
DeleteThen again, he has contributors in the U.S. who help defray the cost of his blog, probably to the tune it's helping him pay his rather ominous legal bills. Galganov was tagged for the government's cost of the fight and all court costs. That's sick, but this is the state of questionable freedom we live in.
Frankly, I'm hopeful Philip Berlach will come back, but he's tired too and has grandchildren to enjoy in New York, if not Quebec.
I do not envy how Howard has to figure out how to pay those legal bills which are in the couple of hundreds of thousands of dollars. My understanding is that an Ontario judge placed the ominous costs upon him in circumstances that usually see the state or others pay. Petty vindictiveness.
DeleteI'd love to do a blog like Philip's but (1) hard to do not living in Quebec where you really have to have your pulse on things in order to do it properly; and (2) no way I could come close to doing it as well or as thorough as he does (note the present tense "does" and not "did" because I hold out hope that he will tire quickly of his "retirement" and come back to the blogging).
I still hold to my prediction that the Liberals will soon be up to their old "nationalist" tricks and their as-bad-as-the-PQ language legislation which will eventually get under Philip's skin and he will return.
I do hope you're right Tony (except about the liberals (but have to agree)) - hoping he will change his mind - maybe just not write as often but still write.
DeleteSad to hear but not surprised. I think the seperation movement is dead for at least 3 more years..the interest in this blog will fade during that time. But I will say as many have that the editor has done a brilliant job over the past few years..great content..a high level of knowledge and literary skills..impressive predictions and also a pretty open mind in letting many types of comments from all sides to post. Bravo Mr.Berlach and I hope you have a great summer and I sincerely hope that things get better in Quebec although I have my doubts..
ReplyDelete"...and also a pretty open mind in letting many types of comments from all sides to post."
Deletethat's true. editor has always been accomodating to racist bashers like cebeuq, james wolfe and cutie003. i wonder if this i something to praise though.
"editor has always been accomodating to racist bashers like cebeuq, james wolfe and cutie003. i wonder if this i something to praise though."
DeleteFunny, last time I checked the posters you mentioned were 100% opposed to racist bills such as 101, the charter of values and the OQLF.
They believe in everyone's right to live life as they wish, so long as no one gets hurt.
Not you - you wish to strip individuals of their fundamental rights, in a selfish desire to have others live "your way."
The Editor really was too good for the likes of you, Y.L and S.R (now there's a troll who knew when to quit!)
@a bs argument
Delete"The Editor really was too good for the likes of you..."
oh, so to top it off you are also against freedom of speech? by jove do you show off a shitty values set mate.
Will miss you and hope you will feel the need to carry on. You have often made me realize with your well worded and well researched entries and the more reasoned comments that the non sep population has been using social media to instantly bleat and blurt when incidents occur and getting it temporarily out of their system, drop the ball. You were an great example of how to do it.
ReplyDeleteHe really is a good example of how to do it. And you mentioned three things he did so well:
DeleteWell worded. It was a pleasure to read his blogs.
Well researched. Very well researched and he went to the trouble to also supply links when necessary.
Reasoned. I often marvelled at how he reasoned his positions. Particularly those numerous posts Philip did on debunking the nationalist myths. Those were my favourites. And why I am glad he has decided to leave the blog up for those of us that want to go back to those posts and use them as the valuable resource they are.
Thank you Mr. Berlach, your opinion were always well written and reading your many post was often very informative.
ReplyDeleteAll the best, Liam
I’m curious whether you’re the same Liam who usually posts as Liam, because if there were two Liams posting, it would only help to improve the knowledge of how much Irish-Quebecers have not all been assimilated by franco-Quebecers, who themselves decry assimilation, but only when it occurs to francophones.
DeleteYes, I'm the same Liam. Just thought I sign off with my last name for the final post of NoDogs.
DeleteMany Irish Quebeckers in Montreal and Quebec city did assimilate with the majority of French, since they were catholic. Although, with a large population of Irish moving during the Great famine, many homeless Irish children arrived in Quebec. The Catholic Church encouraged many from Montreal and Quebec City, and even from Beauce, Les Appalaches, and Lotbinière. Their is also many Irish settlers that came to regions, including a town in Appalaches County, called Irlande, because of the many Irish settlers. Even the hometown of my grandfather, himself Irish, who married a Francophone (who always wore red on Canada Day, and green on St Patrick and never voted for the PQ), still contained a few descendant of Irish.
Now Irish are an example were even many don't speak Irish Gaelic, many speaking just English, or in Quebec, French, their is still many Irish tradition. My grandfather would cook me some of my favorite Irish meal, including Dublin Coddle and Soda bread. Most Irish won't consider themselves assimilated to english or french, even with the fact none will speak gaelic. This is because most will view language and culture separately. Even myself, I have strong respect for french language being my mother tongue.
@Joseph : Je suis 1/16 Irlandais. Est-ce que mon héritage à moins de 10% Irlandais aurait "normalement" dû assimiler tout le reste de ma famille francophone?
DeleteWhat are you...a poodle? Only little people have huge fears....huge 'Imagined' fears. The Jewish people, who had no nation till a few decades ago travelled the earth for thousands of years and managed to maintain their culture and identity. Maybe you should ask them how it's done...if "assimilation" is your BIGGEST worry in Life.
DeleteOui as-tu lu le mot crainte?
DeleteYES..ALL OVER YOUR POST. Your paralyzingly 'Fear of Assimilation' has run this entire province (but especially Montreal) into the ground. Here's some free advice: Get a Life, so the rest of us can get on with ours!

DeleteEven after the lights are turned off, disrespectful seppies continue to crawl out of the woodwork like cockroaches. And then they genuinely wonder why they are so disrespected.
DeleteIn any event, the rest of the world has been able to discern for themselves who here is really angry and contemptuous of others. The Scottish nationalist example still hasn’t sunk in with them… nor is it ever likely to.
Un autre qui est fâché fâché par une simple question. Jean-Guy je sûr et certain que vous avez des choses pires dans votre vie que de posez une simple question sur un blogue public. Enlever donc le bâton que vous avez dans le cul.
DeleteI was convinced this was s.r. again, except he didn't correct my intentional bad grammar, maybe it's a brand new troll and ordinarily I'd say "who cares", except I have to get something off my chest.
Delete@PAC
Sounds like YOU'RE 'fâché fâché' and I guarantee you ...you're the one with the stick up his ass, we can tell from here!
If you cannot understand and grasp that you are living in dire economic times in this province, corrupt to the core and practically penniless having to rely on handouts from the ROC because you insist on social programs you cannot afford and the preservation of culture and identity, at any cost, then ..you're pretty much an idiot. I don't say this to hurt or insult you, I state it simply as an observation, like when you see a kid stick his tongue to a pole in minus 30 weather ...for kicks, you look at him and say to yourself.."what a dimwit". With the last 40years, and what you've reduced this province to, you're all that dumb kid in minus 30 weather. We know none of this computes for you, but perhaps one day when the handouts stop and your economy has been officially flushed down the toilet like Greece, you can lay out your identity and culture on the table and have a morsel of that! Maybe then, the hunger pangs will speak to you.
Ontario is a mess as well and this is true, except the difference is there are bidding wars going on there for real estate. It's a little surreal that a property goes up in the morning and it's gone before sunset. Here, a house sits with an À Vendre sign forever. But I suppose you can't process THAT either.
Pease stop defending the indefensible. The message was sent out to you 'Loud and Clear' on April 7th that your position is no longer sustainable and the majority no longer want to partake in it. There is a reason for it and perhaps you ought to ponder that for a while...un conseil comme ça.
Heads like tacks I'm afraid - once they're onto this kick, they won't be happy until they push us into bankruptcy and civil war. The damn fools only have to look at their TV to get the clue where they are pushing this but they're too stupid even for that.

Delete"Now sit back, absorb the reality of your situation and watch as a REAL government takes to the economy and fixes everything wrong your separatist movement has caused. :-)"
By REAL government, you mean the PLQ? Tread lightly, they've been worst than the PQ at times and more often than not, you can't tell them apart. I will, however..give them the benefit of the doubt for now with this new guy in charge, but one bloody false move, like re-introducing the charter nonsense, and they're done, the end..FINITO!
How sad, that as citizens of this province we always had to settle for mediocre provincial governments, who never did anything substantial for citizens. Please spare the "social programs", they gave you something you could I'll-afford, and when they finally pull these, it will be worst for those who have to go without, having known the comfort of going WITH. Better never to have had them, you can't miss what you don't know. But such is Life.
Quebec politics, always behind the 8 ball...always disappointing.
The best right now are the (public sector) Unions who insist on money promised to them...WHICH JUST ISN'T THERE...let's call it the first casualty, stay tuned...more to come!
@montreal ville-état

i think he does. silly isn't it? predaking is not the sharpest pencil in the drawer i'll give you that.

My biggest regret is that I waited to this last post to make my first comment. I was, like many more a "LURKER" who read this blog assiduously but never participated.
and would you have agreed with cutie003 or would you have been a relevant contributor had you posted shelby?
DeleteWell. it's been fun reading you from when I found your blog, looking for a stat I thought was published on the Globe, almost two years ago, when I was still at Ahuntsic College, in the middle of the tuition fees strike.
ReplyDeleteIt was fun and interresting having a fresh and strong look to the anglo community of Québec from the inside. I have always been closer to minorities and more marginal groups, as well as people from other nations over the Internet, playing MMORPGs online. I always had the french look of everything in our politics, even though I wasn't close to my fellow quebecker. Main reason being I was a marginal at school. Now that I am part of the working force of the Province, I am proud to say that my links to minorities ans anglos help me daily.
I learned a lot reading you. I learned a lot reading about the anglo community on this blog. I learned a lot about Canada. I have been able to see beyond stereotypes in politics.
What a nice tribute Vincent - I wish all francophones were as open minded as you about quebec politics.
Delete@vincent beaudry
Deletecomputer dorks have this tendency of drifting towards minimal thinking and baloney right wing servant flunkey mentality. it always puzzled me. can you explain this phenomenon vincent?
FROM ED
ReplyDeleteWell Phil, we've come to the crossroad.
I'd like to know what a person needs to create a blog and how costly are they?
For now, in the words of Jim reeves
Adios Amigo; adios my friend. The site we have travelled has come to an end..
And so we must move on but shed not a tear
'cause the words we have posted will always be here.
Up there to be seen in the internet's book.
Where we and the whole world can all have a look.
ADIOS AMIGO; ADIOS MY FRIEND
Well it's been a long road and it's sad to see you stop writing, being one of the few rights advocates that takes a sensible and pragmatic view to the situation. That said I expect you'll be involved in the movement in one way or another, and while there will undoubtedly be a lull in developments for the next 4 years I fully expect there to be much to write about at the end of that time period, and you'll be well rested and ready to tackle the issues at hand. For that reason, I do not say farewell, rather, see you later, and to quote the great Red Green, "remember to always keep your stick on the ice, because we're all in this together."
ReplyDeletePhil, I've been following your blog from almost the beginning and always looked forward with great anticipation to each new posting. Reading it became a daily routine and you will be very sadly missed. Best of luck in your future endeavors.
ReplyDeleteI'm feeling rather shocked and almost speechless. Though most of all, saddened to hear this is the end.
ReplyDeleteCertainly there's far less juicy stories and news to write about with the PQ dethroned (albeit a temporary dethronement), but I never imagined you'd call it quits! There's still so much more to discuss and bring to the attention of others in the near future through your writings. For example, the Liberals intend to resurrect parts of the PQ's Charter of Values, including tampering with the Quebec Charter of Freedoms and Rights in order to allow it to pass. The problem is Quebecers are living under a false sense of security under the Liberals, when it fact their rights and freedoms are just as much in danger as they were under the PQ rule. Perhaps even more so as they're so willing to blindly trust the Liberals.
And I strongly believe we've not seen the end of the PQ or the separatist movement. It's merely gone into a temporary slumber, but mark my words, it will all come back in just a few short years. Any chance at that point you might be persuaded to come out of your blog retirement then? :)
Oh well, I would have preferred less regular updates to this blog, even if postings were months apart, than to see it all come abruptly to an end. I'll certainly miss your writings and thoughts, not to mention the comments and discussions from others here (Mr. Sauga, Cutie, Cebeuq, Complicated, James Wolf, etc). Some of you might even want to consider starting your own blogs!
Nevertheless, Phil, I do respect what path you choose and want to thank you for all the years of writings. I've been around since the beginning and enjoyed them thoroughly, not to mention gained a great deal of insight from you and your readers!
"...gained a great deal of insight from you and your readers!"
Deleteinsight was on me. thanks mate.
Student, of all the posters on this blog, you were the least insightful.
Delete@liam
Deletewell i would have been worried if you thought otherwise liam.
you'll now have to invent your pontiac garbage elsewhere. where will it be? i'll follow you mate. you're a good laugh.

ReplyDeleteWell! Where do we go from here. the future is pretty much inour hands. Since Fracophones and even the French press don't attack their governments (They complain to the Church We need to carry the ball. If we are being attake verbally the best hing to do isignore zand get the truth out ourslves
Bill 101 will live forever and it should but we will see changes asstore keepers realize they will not be nprosecuted for raising English signs. Dr. Couillard is not stupid enough to get his government in touble.over stupidity. We will see a general softening everywhere now. We'll finf bus drivers and metro agents morewilling to speak English.
And so we must not say it's over. Also accusing the Liberals ofbeing crooked do niothings like oher prties does not help our situation. Give them a chance to act and guide them as to how and where.
What needs to be done in Quebec. I have sent an opinion piece to the Gaxette this morning hoping to see some imorovement in hosptal care. Letters from others saying the same (that Couillard must fund the hospitalls now) would give impetus to the governm entto act quicikly. the PQ destroyed our hospitals but help frommabovecould sole the problem.
Ed writes:
Delete"Bill 101 will live forever and it should..."
And that, in a nutshell, sums up both Ed and why the anglo community is in the dire straights that is in.
Quite appropriate that on the last blog entry by Philip that Ed stays true to his appeasement form.
Yes, Tony, exactly - that it is OK with Ed that people are deprived of their rights in CANADA, is exactly why this movement will never die in quebec. Crazy old man without a thought in his head about how others are affected by these rebellious politicians. Hilter loved his type during the second world war.
Delete@Cutie
DeleteIt is precisely this type of thinking, from people who have been willing to shut up and put up, (specifically minorities), bending to every little whim for Fear of seppie retaliation and cowering rather than fighting back, that has put us all in a deep hole. I hope they (if they haven't already, eventually) realize the extend of the damage they've perpetrated and that all of us have had to live with.
Most especially, I hold ALL past (for now I will abstain from including the present) governments this province has had for 40 years for utter political mismanagement and complete ineptness. The PQ+PLQ have brought 40years of economic hardship and subjugation of Rights and Freedoms to this province and I for one will keep reminding everyone THEY are to blame for what's happened here. The dismal state of my beloved city, Montréal, which they have plotted to sabotage every chance they got, ....is completely on THEM. Going forward...Time is on the side of Right and Justice and both will prevail as the architects of all the wrong the rest of us have been subjected to for 4 decades, pass on (good riddance bad trash); It can't happen soon or fast enough. Future generations...intelligent, articulate and worldly..will know which path will bring the greatest success, and it won't be to hang on to false fears and 'small-town' thinking. The bullshit that brought down an international city like Montreal is indeed and thankfully ...one-generational and I believe that whole-heartedly now. The more I speak to young people the more I am convinced of it. The internet and now social media have been this province's Declaration of Independence from backward and repressive thinking. The Torch has been passed to a new generation of Forward Thinkers, who completely get that they must SEEK THE WORLD rather than reject it and this realization provides great solace.
"And Justice for All"
I so hope you're right AnecTOTE - I'm fed up to the teeth with people thinking that any kind of appeasement to these militants is an answer to the problems that plague us and have for the past 40 years. I have to keep hope that people like Ed will fade away with time and that the young people will see where this type of repression of minorities in the province is hurting us immensely in too many ways to count - from immigration to our business communities abandoning quebec because of Bills like 101 and 14. All of this shit has to stop! NOW is the time Dr. Couillard! Let's get back to being Canadian and DAMN PROUD OF IT!
Delete@Cutie
DeleteThey've run out of money. When they began their little crusade, Montreal was thriving and provided $$$ for decades. But now, 40 years later, from pervasive corruption and political shenanigans, their cash cow is broke. They desperately need those transfer payments from Ottawa to keep their heads above water. Their bloody nonsense has hit a brick wall. If the ROC actually ever realizes and acknowledges this, the tables will turn so dramatically and drastically that even the heads of seppies long long gone and no longer with us will spin...and to all the quiet nationalists, the silent majority, who stood by and allowed the victimization to perpetuate on minorities, for 40 years, You're accountable...Take Heed, Justice is coming for you too.
THAT is how it will play out, my dear Cutie, I'd bet the Farm. For the time being, due to work commitments, I will be elsewhere. I am looking forward to a new place, new surroundings, new people, it's temporary but who knows. Quebec has to prove itself worthy for me to keep paying its taxes and for the moment, as far as I'm concerned, it's on Probation. That is how I look at it. My kid will get an Ivy League education where we are going, an elite athlete, she graduated with Honours, her shear dedication and hard work has paid off, ...so no worries there.
A tous, bonne chance...you're gonna need it.
We need you people here AnecTOTE - I hope you decide to remain and fight alongside us. The more of you that leave, the less support we have to correct this situation. Congratulations to your daughter - she sounds like a great kid. Be proud and do what's best for your family but we will miss you.
DeleteMy dearest, in my heart ....I never leave, the rest is just Geography.
DeleteNo worries, this is everyone's problem, no matter where we are.
Case in point, young people know where it's at and so do intelligent parents. If I had time I'd teach English to kids in this province for free, (maybe when I'm back). Lol
DeleteYou want to be fluently bilingual, move to Montreal! You only have your Future to gain!

To all my federalist friends out there: If you find a similar blog that you are participating in, please post it here so that I do not lose touch with everyone. Ones that do not believe Bill 101 is justified but are willing to fight to regain our rightful place in quebec, equal to everyone else. Especially, AnecTOTE, Apple, ABSA, even complicated, (too many to list), but you know who you are. Thank you again, all of you!
ReplyDeleteHey Cutie, My friend in Ottawa started a blog today.
Deletehttp://quebececonomy.blogspot.ca
The blog will focus on Ottawa and Gatineau.
Thanks Liam - will keep note and I'm sure you and I will stay in touch! God, let's hope things improve. Notice the housing market has picked way up since the election and the IF are bitching even more than ever losing $50,000 from the quebec government. Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch - lol. Hope you are boycotting the events this weekend - I would take my grandson but I wouldn't give them the satisfaction (nor the money) - bigots! Our community has to speak up more often and louder than the big mouth separatists - wish we had more people with a few guts!
DeleteWill do Cutie...will do...miss ya already...
Delete@cutie003
Delete"Notice the housing market has picked way up since the election..."
ok so what's stopping you from moving out now?
Hey Cutie, sure keep note and don't hesitate to post comment. I would love to hear from you.
Deletehttp://quebececonomy.blogspot.ca already attracted 75 page views, including from our friends in Ukraine!
Montréal Ville État write comments too even if not related on the subject. Hearing more on Montréal is great.
The housing increase is great, hope it keeps on going for the next few years. It should with a Liberals in government and sovereignty in the back burner. I am proud to say I never supported events by Imperatif Français. Just happy the government cut their subsidy.
"ok so what's stopping you from moving out now?"
DeleteWhy would she move out now, "mate"?
Her (our) team won the war.
Why move out now that the scum has been reduced to a shadow of what it once was?
Cutie, next time I'm in Gatineau (soon), I'll stop by for a celebratory BBQ.
We'll laugh at how Student's been reduced to infantile insults now that her movement is proven to be dead and going nowhere.
Yes, ABSA, send me an e-mail and we'll set up something. Why I do not move is none of "student's" business - biggest problem with the seppies is they can't mind their own damn business! They strive to bully everyone but most people see exactly what they are up to. At least SR had the grace to leave after his defeat at the polls; too bad "student" can't show the same respect for her fellow citizens that kicked her ass during the last election. Get a real job bitch!
DeleteMiss you too already AnecTOTE - Thanks for all you do for our cause and keep fighting for separation of Montreal and our area will also want out of quebec. They are killing us all financially and socially and do not deserve our cities to be part of their misguided cause! I hope most of us migrate to a new blog where we can still communicate with one another but I, like most of us here, will really miss this one!
Delete@cutie003
Delete"Why I do not move is none of "student's" business..."
you yourself once admited that you wouldn't move because you couldn't sell your shack. here you just wrote that someone will now take it. so why don't you sell and move? wouldn't you be happier in ontario?
@cutie003
Deleteyou once wrote that you were on very expensive pills. if this is my business than i must conclude the reason why you don't move out of a province where you feel you are denied what you think are basic human rights is also of my business.
by the way, now could be the last chance for you to tell our community what are those rights that you claim are stripped from you by the quebec government. you have been crying about it for years. come tell us what it was all about. my hypothesis: nothin'.
@Dearest Cutie
DeletePay her no mind, anyone who plays dumb about bill 101 and the OQLF IS DUMB. We may not have this blog for a while as it will be on hiatus, but there are other means to keep exposing these little Dictators and their abuse of minorities. The post below by "just left quebec" says it all. People are on to them and aware of the bullcrap they pull. The bad street cred is getting around and no one deserves it more than broke-ass quebec.
@Liam
DeleteThank you for the link ..great to see JW and cutie are on there, will visit ...going forward ..Thank you.
As a Montrealer living in Hong Kong for the last eighteen years, your blog helped provide me with the political insights I craved and a stronger connection to the city and province I love. Sadly, I was only introduced to your blog within the last year, but it became a part of my daily routine.
ReplyDeleteI will really miss the wonderful feeling of anticipation when clicking on my Nodogs bookmark, the well written and researched articles and the many laughs you helped generate.
After having a good break, I hope you will reconsider your decision and not be completely removed as a trusted and greatly admired political pundit and wordsmith.

ReplyDeleteDHockeyGuy
Delete"Québec Bashing" ... lol. Another seppie movement PR dept invention to try and discredit any and all who wouldn't drink the seppie Kool-aid. I must admit is is truly satisfying to see the handful of seppies who posted here being obliged to swallow a ginormous plate of humble pie, their despair now juxtaposed to the arrogance and smarmy confidence they had when the PQ somehow got back into power.
The separatist movement will always be around but I think their heyday is long gone (as polls of young francophones show). All that's left now are bitter zealots like the above poster, still trying to blame QC anglos for their failed sham project. Makes me smile. :) Thanks for all your work and effort Phillip. It's been a pleasure reading these past couple of years.
Quebec deserves all of the bashing it receives, not just from some individuals within the province but from the rest of Canada and internationally. Pastagate anyone?
DeleteThe Scots haven't tried to reinforce their identity by attacking the linguistic and religious freedoms of minorities living within their jurisdiction, as has happened here.
eh bien, Tout les francophonnes qui disent que Mario Beaulieu est un clown, est-ce-qu'ils sont en train de faire du QUEBEC-BASHING aussi?
DeleteQuebec Bashing is a myth.
DeleteTruth-telling is quebec bashing...only in quebec.
DeleteMaybe if quebec would behave better, if it were more respectful of certain segments of its society and especially the hand that feeds it, (ROC), there would be no reason to bash it; and the truth told about it would be positive and full of praise...just sayin'
@kevin
Delete"Tout les francophonnes qui disent que Mario Beaulieu est un clown, est-ce-qu'ils sont en train de faire du QUEBEC-BASHING aussi?"
it depends if they take the opportunity to depict all quebec likewise. if they do yes it's quebec bashing. if they don't it's only mario beaulieu bashing. still petty. do you understand now kevin?
Thanks for the memories, too. It’s an incredible amount of work to come up with several blog posts a week. It’s a pity to have created a community of readers who is now left hanging in the breeze without their daily fix.
ReplyDeleteRemember JBG? He used to post here before, sometimes as Jason Bo Green or Jacques Beau Vert. I just discovered his own blog post from last year, describing why he stopped reading NDOA. He provides a pretty good summary of the Editor’s writing style, as well as that of some the regular contributors as they were then, including (*blush*) yours truly. It’s an interesting read:
http://jasonholborn.com/weblog/no-dogs-or-anglophones-just-say-no-othering/
it's strange. jbg writes that he was impressed by your knowledge of history. what the hell could have given him that impression?!?
DeleteAs Jason is not a resident of this province, he has no level of understanding of what we go through on a daily basis to fight for our right to live as we wish as anglophones in quebec. He may be a nice guy and all that, but our struggle is not his struggle nor are his assets affected by what goes on here. Would certainly give me a different outlook if I were not living here just as Mr. Sauga has an entirely different take on our situation. Not that I don't understand how and why they feel the way they do, this is just more personal to those that live here.
DeleteThis blog has become part of a daily routine for so many of us. I am sad to see it end but something tells me that you, Mr. Editor, will not be able to keep quiet for very long. That is what I hope anyway. Not only will I miss my daily reading, I will miss our little community (except for one or two individuals), people that I have come to know through their comments and personalities.

DeleteI was actually expecting alligator tears, but you've proven just how infantile you truly are. You're down to the level of a ten-year-old.
THIS is why your movement is dying.
The leaders of your Klan simply don't have the maturity or intellect to carry the movement anymore.

DeletePleaseeeeee...she threw a party! It's what she hoped for from the beginning, it is why she hung around. But there is still social media...and any 'pastagate' is just around the corner. Thank you, Editor, for all your hard work. I’ll cross my fingers that one day you might change your mind or find some sort of compromise that would eventually perpetuate your important voice, with its depth of contacts.

Separatists don’t value anglo-Quebec culture, nor its tremendous contribution to the growth of Quebec, nor do they care about whether English vanishes completely from Quebec because it will always continue to live on elsewhere in the world.
ReplyDeleteSeparatists live in mortal fear that French might one day disappear from Quebec, something which is obviously never going happen, but use this argument to justify the trampling over everyone else’s rights. They also egotistically don’t give a hoot about the existence of French Canadians outside Quebec.
This phony fear of disappearing from North America is the gist of the human rights abuses in Quebec, yet of course the same argument that French will also always continue to live on elsewhere in the world should it ever vanish from Quebec falls on deaf ears.
The refusal to acknowledge this hypocrisy is at the core of explaining why Quebec often becomes an international laughingstock and an object of ridicule with its policies.
That is essentially the sum total of what I learned from the existence of this blog.
R.S.
DeleteSo well said!!!! I think what we have also learnt is that the internet and social media has made push-back possible and this is huge in containing their nonsense. Gone are the days where they could do whatever they wanted and no one was the wiser. This was a huge reason we had resident trolls on this blog, the tables were turned on them ..desperately trying to maintain their reputation ( what reputation) for this reason, I am greatly saddened that Editor is closing down the blog..BUT..I am confident he will be back. Something tells me he will! I remain hopeful!!

At the same time though, I'm not sad about this.
I was actually looking forward to this day - when the blog comes to and end because the separatist movement can no longer exist without intense life support.

:-)
My wife and I moved to Montreal from New York City a year ago after I quit my job with a top technology company. We came with 4 computer science degrees between us and startup money. We wanted to learn a new language (French - we have only rudimentary skills), and live in a new place. Over the past year we encountered absurdity after absurdity in Quebec. At times it felt like living through a Monty Python sketch. I found this blog after searching for information after one of those absurdities. Over the past year we decided that we don't have the appetite for this. Don't want to deal with a government and public service that is so openly hostile to a segment of a population. Don't want to have to deal with the language police. Don't want to have to hear "But this is Quebec!" as the justification for bullshit. We've been taking French classes, but I've concluded that no matter how fluent we become in French we'll never be considered real citizens of Quebec. We'll forever be interloping outsiders. We don't need this, I just wanted to learn some damn French and live somewhere different, not be part of an underclass fighting a culture war in a crumbling, dysfunctional city/province. Hilariously, we were going to buy a house when we just arrived (dodged that bullet).
ReplyDeleteWe're fortunate enough to have some flexibility in where we live, so two days ago we packed up and moved to Toronto.
Editor, I've read your blog for the past year. You've provided a bit of reassurance that we weren't the crazy ones.
Thanks, and god-speed Mr. Anglo Man.
Just so you know, the public service is hostile to everyone, not just anglos.
Deletei agree...so true...sad but true...
DeleteLies, spin, more lies, corruption, fraud, money laundering…the entire political system is a mess from the top down and the bottom up…the real question that should be asked but is never asked in the media is, who is not on the take in government?
How do these people get re - elected? It’s obvious, take a close look at who votes for them.
"We don’t want the party to end, the “free” trips, expense accounts…perks, gold plated pensions, free this, free that…Yes indeed, see we in government, are all entitled to our entitlements folks and we can’t stop that, at least not until we retire. Our unions say so, it’s ours and we want it now...$$” Nice eh? See what working for government has become? Go look at all the debt mounting. Governments all across Canada, the US… have been on a hiring binge, a spending spree for decades now. Government = police, fire, hospitals, teachers, lawyers, crown corporations – Canada post, Hydro…= high salaries, bonuses, pensions, perks… all out of control for decades now = More and more debt…making the connection yet?
Decades of overspending…more and more debt, see what these people in government are doing to future generations?
Greed, greed and more greed... this is what runs Canada now. All government, all greed...every day…while the private sector gets gutted…thanks greedy public sector unions, scum of the earth, all of them… This is just a fact and it’s only gotten worse.

There wont be another time. Its really over for Quebec in Canada. You have no other strategy than to accept the welfare from the ROC and keep quiet. The French language is in decline in the world and in Canada as well. The numbers tell the story. Don't want to put you down but these are the facts of the matter. If you think Quebec can make it on their own...well. go for it. But, it certainly has not happened in the last 40 years. (read ; failed cause) Only problem for you is that the ROC has woken up to your empty and unrealistic threats.
Delete'Only problem for you is that the ROC has woken up to your empty and unrealistic threats.'
DeleteI hope so, i really do.
Dear Editor (or Mr. Berlach):
ReplyDeleteThank you very much for maintaining this blog for so many years. It was a refreshing window not just on the status of Anglo rights in Quebec, but also Quebec life and culture itself. I'm grateful to the hospitality provided by you and the others to me in this blog. Too bad this is ending, but it is your life, not ours. Hopefully one of the other posters will catch the torch thrown from your failing but proud hands, and make it theirs to hold high.
A final word to the francophone nationalists who not only wish that Quebec was an independent country but also to get rid of all English speakers---Méfiez-vous ce que vous souhaitez. Vous risquez même de l'obtenir!
@edward cunningham
Delete"to the francophone nationalists who not only wish that Quebec was an independent country but also to get rid of all English speakers..."
the number of people you are addressing here edward is zero. you have been an easy target for the victim complex propaganda artists that work here.
Thank you for your interest in the blog and in quebec politics Mr. Cunningham. As an American, we appreciate that interest and the fact that you cared enough about your northern neighbour to at least give both sides a fair look see. You can now see where the faults lie and I hope you spread the word about our "Hilter" nationalists that live here and want to take this province and country on nothing but a downward slide toward total destruction. Spread the word far and wide - the more publicity this movement gets, the better for all of North America.
DeleteIf for nothing else, this blog has made me appreciate France.
DeleteNo, I still do not like the Academie Française acting like every English word is an infectious disease, and I'm pretty sure that the language barrier in Paris is much steeper than in Montreal. But I would much rather read--or try to read--signs written solely in French than signs where French is twice as big as English. I cannot judge Paris versus Montreal, but I suspect that France overall is less parochial than Quebec. If I take the trouble to learn French and respect French customs--even if my French is not perfect---I think that I will be accepted and I might even be invited to become a French citizen with open arms. I get the impression from this blog that even if I were to learn French perfectly I would never be accepted as part of chez nous, which is why even French expatriates have a hard time here. Good luck keeping up the good fight, and I hope somebody else starts a similar blog because I doubt that this story is over anytime soon.
Yes, Mr. Cunningham - we all wish this "story" was over but as long as we have at least 30% of the quebec population that believe they "know better" than the rest of North America how to live the "high life", we will have these problems. Reality is not one of their "strong" suits I'm afraid. I wish it were possible to remove them from our lives and let them live somewhere else, anywhere else, but they are scattered all over the place unfortunately. Anyway, I too hope that someone else will pick up the blog and carry on with a lot of us still participating, you included. It's been a pleasure.
DeleteMr. B,
ReplyDeleteI can understand your having enough of this. Was good you kept blogging through the election and I am sure the blog had some effect on the eventual demise of the PQ and Madame Marois & Company.
In any event, has been fun reading the blog and making the occasional post.
Have a good time and enjoy your time with family an friends.
In reality Quebec is pretty much done...and at the beck and call of the federalists who fund the equalization programs and welfare to the province. The new government can come out with whatever platform they want but at the end of the day Quebec is the proverbial "Emporer with no Clothes". The game is over and the ROC has discovered the fact that Quebec will never leave and all the past threats were just that ( albeit they just about made it in 1995). Macleans was right, the National Post is right, Even Barbara Kay is right on the situation in Quebec.
I suspect the treatment of Quebec by the ROC will change markedly going forward now that every body is informed that Quebec is a dog with rubber teeth.
And putting Beaulieu in charge of the 'dead" BQ ...what a joke and waste of taxpayer money
Thanks for all the good times reading the "to and fro" of no dogs.
The Westerner,
"Emporer with no Clothes".

ReplyDeleteBonne fête Nationale des Québécois !
ReplyDelete"National" implies you have a country - which you do not. Happy province day.

Delete- S.Harper
It’s not even a province holiday. St. Jean Baptiste Day is a French Catholic religious holiday, equivalent to St. Patrick’s Day. The PQ renamed it to the National Holiday, thinking that it would magically change into a civic holiday equivalent to the inclusive Canada Day, except that it would exclusively celebrate the Québécois “nation” that is aggressively hostile to English and English Quebecers. Non-Québécois Quebecers are welcome to celebrate the French-only holiday for Québécois Quebecers but virtually all non-francophones ignore the day, particularly since the organization of the holiday was taken over by the hardcore nationalists at the Mouvement National des Québécois.
DeleteIn other words, the pleasant St. Jean Baptiste holiday has been turned into an awful hot mess.

ReplyDeleteCutie, For the love of God see a psychiatrist. You're stuck in a void and you've become obsessed with seppie bashing. Why are you asking people in other countries to join in with seppie bashing. My God woman that's sick.
It was the seppie bashing that closed down our blog. You and three others drove the good posters away. James Wolfe and apple are two human beings full of hatred. They willl never change. I have never read them say a good word about anyone or anything
Ed -
DeleteAs I've stated in the past, as much as I disagree with your opinions and often bizarre observations, I wish no ill against you. I will however not stand by as you put others down or make defamatory remarks about me which amount to libel. Please, I invite you to quote comments where I have written hateful comments about individuals on this blog. Oh, I certainly think very little of the PQ/Liberals, and the fear mongering and hateful politics of Quebec, and will always speak my mind about it, but I have never once targeted any groups, races or individuals. On the flip side I will not hide my disdain for Quebec's loathsome treatment of basic human rights, animal abuse and cruelty, anti-religious freedom and out of control corruption among other criminal acts that continue here unabated. Apparently to you, pointing out these injustices and wrong doings are hateful comments? Oh well, what can I say, this goes back to your bizarre observations.
Now, you, on the other hand, if you want to talk about "a human being full of hatred". Let's review some of your quotes, Ed, in recent weeks and months:
-" 'When it is his job to take a certain 6 foot 6 inch black girl to court and she is screeching 'You ain't taking this fuckin nigger nowhere mister and if you lay a hand on me I'll tear your eyes out and scream rape'. it gets difficult."
-"Ford is right the homosexuals are going to far. This in your face practice needs some boundaries. They are not more important thean the Olympicss. "
-"You give Jews and humanity a bad name. You are a money grubbing Jew."
-[The French Quebecois] "As a race there' no question they are generally low I.Q. It's like dealing with a bunch of kids, we have to deal with their handicaps.Do we dis mentally challenged generally, because that's what they are.."
Well....as this blog fades away, Ed, I do wish you well and good health. Though before we go our separate ways, please look over the comments you've made in the past and think long and hard about them and the impact they make on others. Think about who is really being hateful here and who is simply criticizing for needed change. If you really want to be open minded and caring in your final years, perhaps one day soon you'll learn to accept all people as equal.
Sorry kid. I see no harm in telling the truth. Ed
DeleteThe "truth" to you Ed is the same as "beauty is in the eyes of the beholder" - sometimes I can't believe the crazy statements you make. I will, again, remind you that this is not your blog nor do I have to account to your for anything I say - I will "bash" the separatists and their ideology as much as I like and I will until they all go the way of the do-do bird. Like Apple, I do not wish you any ill will but mind your own business. She pointed out only a few of the crazy, hateful, spiteful things you've said on here - no room for all of it! If you don't like what I post, tough titty, I don't post looking for your comments. By the way, it was the election that closed down the blog you fool, not the communicating with trolls of which I did very, very little.
DeleteAnd if anyone needs the help of the shrink, it's you with your passive/aggressive personality disorder and it's also people like you that help keep the whole damn separatist movement alive and well! Idiot. Open up your own blog PLEASE and I promise that I, along with hundreds of others, will never post one damn thing - guaranteed!

1 My grandson is a social worker that takes kids from Shawbridge Trainung school to,their dates in court.
He bought a new car to have dependency for this and took me for a ride in it to the place once called Boys farm where I used to work. The black girl attacked his face and called herself a fucking nigger. I am simply reporting what I saw and heard. Totally legit. My grandson grabbed her arms and talked gently to calm down. He held her in his arms until she finished screaming. Not a damn wrong with what I've said. Matthew loves the kids and I am very proud of him.
Ford was right about the homosexual community. They wanted to march at the head of the Olympic parade. Who the hell do they think thet are that they should put themselves ahead of the athletes that trained so hard to get there. Anyway I was quoting Rob Ford which is perfectly legit.
I don't know what your beef is with the French I Q. My God man everyone on this blog has noticed and said that at one time or another. I.Q. Are developed over time. If you don't get educated you don't get smart.
Mr. Sauga pissed me off wth his constant whining that transfer payments to Quebec belonged to him, (his money)- (Taking out of my pocket.) I have known others like this. Looking on the internet I find that Jews were persecuted in every European country . Not for their religion but for their business practices.
I'm proud of my work on the blog. I've used my knowledge of history and my knowledge of having been here back then to keep facts straight. I've fought against many of you to support the Liberals and save our homeland. I said from the beginning that the Liberals would win a majority.
Sorry Apple you can take my words out of context and twist them anyway you want but I still stand behind everything I've said. Ed
Ed - The fact that you have categorically denied each and every one of those statements as being racist, let alone even the remote possibility of them being offensive, speaks volumes for itself! Nothing has been taken out of context, those are simply word-for-word examples of what you've publicly shared on Nodogsoranglophones. No admittance, no apology--just excuses and flawed reasoning to cover it up.
DeleteFar worse, just one post above, your response to all those racist statements was: "no harm in telling the truth" (!!) It's even more bizarre that after stating that, you try and defend your statements as NOT racist just one post later.
What can I say, at least you're diverse in your hatred, there's no one specific group you've targeted. You've manage to cover hate and loathing of blacks, Jews, homosexuals and French-Canadians (and who knows what else I've missed!). Makes sense, if you have such a distorted view of reality when it comes to the Liberals and political situation in Quebec, then I can understand a distorted view on race and identity of human beings.
Oh, with regards to I.Q., that is something we are born with. Intelligence doesn't grow or diminish over time, it is just part of who and what we are from birth. Experience, knowledge and learning are built on top of that, and our capability to process, assimilate and make sense of and having an understanding of that knowledge hinges on that pre-existing intelligence we're either born with.
...I bring that up because you're telling me ALL French-Canadians are apparently born with a mental capacity deficiency. And that is offensive, highly offensive! You cannot per-judge a person's capabilities or capacity based on their race, language or color of their skin. That is what defines prejudice! Ditto for stating all persons of Jewish ethnicity are greedy and underhanded with money. This blog was all about equality, freedom and rights...rather ironic that you choose to hang around a place that goes against your values.
All I can say Ed, is you're a real life version of Archie Bunker. Sad, but remember it's never too late to change. That's a message that goes for all of us...
Quite right Apple - he is Archie all over again - passive/aggressive nut.
Deleteoyed her good work with childishness. Her silly disguises were useless and selfish trying to get more space than others. We could recognize her anywhere. LOL. However she made well written points that others had not thought of with a good command of our language. She could probably make a good newspaper columnist. . Anyway towards the end the four of you became unbearable with the consistent repeats and disgusting put downs of the trolls who are human beings. So in the end they won because you all helped them. People asked you from the beginning to ignore them but Anectote said brazenly that she didn't care if others don't like it, if she wants to communicate with trolls she intended to carry on. Even the EDITOR'S pleas meant nothing to you guys.
ReplyDeleteSo God bless you, we all have to live with your selfishness. Like most of us in this province I am trying to rebuild my life and my home. I love Quebec and I'm sick of people that will not look ahead with hope. Your put downs are blackening all of us. People reading you will think Quebec is still under control of the separatists.
If you can't write some thing good about us for our sake don't write.
Good Luck and God Bless. Ed
When seppies and misogynists decide I'm the enemy, and never miss an opportunity to mention me in their posts...it is proof positive...I am being most effective! All I can say is ....Badge of Honor...oh and...Bite me! Lol
DeleteCutie and Apple...you make Women proud everywhere!! Rock On!!
Thanks! Though I'm a man, not a woman. Not sure where the idea I was a 'she' rather than a 'he' suddenly came from. :)
DeleteI supposed it comes from the anonymity we have posting here, can't say I've revealed too much about myself over the years. Except, perhaps, that Mr. Sauga and I grew up in the very same neighborhood, literally just a few houses away from each other. Who knows, my family may even know his family! Only other details of my life that I've shared is the death of my father and the discrimination I faced at the company I worked at during that period.
Montreal ville etat - Thanks for the support, but just to set the record straight I'm a man, not a woman. :) Not sure what gave the impression otherwise but I suppose when posting under complete anonymity, as we do here, that's bound to happen.
DeleteMy mistake too Apple - you seem like such a gentle soul that we just presumed you were a woman (sorry guys) - lol
DeleteI apologize too and....You still Rock! Lol

Delete"...just to set the record straight I'm a man."
really?!? i was sure you were a woman too. something in the way you express yourself. are you gay? not that there is anything wrong with it.
thanks for the memory was Bob Hope's theme song. From his start on the radio as the lemac man around 1948.
ReplyDeleteLEMAC was camel's (cigarettes) spelled backward. A contestant won twenty dollars for each right answer ED.
For anyone who enjoys talk radio, and wants to listen to the francophone voice of reason, I recommend you listen to the opinion radio station Radio X, 91.9. They are the number 1 talk radio station in Quebec city and are becoming very popular in Montreal. Here you will not find the new, modern, awakened voice of today's francophone who are not brainwashed by the leftest seppie propaganda. They scare the beejeebers out of the seppies, Amir Kadir even threatened to shut them down if he ever got into power. They are a breath of fresh air. For anyone who wants to listen, they are off until Wednesday. Warning: it is addictive!!
ReplyDeleteCorrection: Here you WILL find the new, modern, awakened.....
DeleteDarn, I wish I could correct my posts sometime!
@laurie
Deleteyou are crazy. radiox is nicknamed radio-poubelle for a reason. it's trash. it can be good when they dare interview antagonists.
you must be aware that notorious nuisances stéphane gendron and carl monette have been fired? why is that in your humble opinion? and why is it good cred if amir kadir doesn't like what they do?!?

ReplyDeleteApple, who the hell are you to judge me. You have no idea what I've
ReplyDeletedone in life or who I've done it for.
Have you ever dragged out of bed at 3am to help carry furnmiture from a burning building so people can save what lttle they have? I have many times. I also set up a system with landlords to use their empty apartment so that by morning they0 would have all they needed to send the well rested kids off to school. We supplied furniture and basic needs. I orgamized this through St. Willibroads Church in Verdun where I also started a soup kitchen and clothing center both of which are still going on today.
Att my own Church St. Athanasius Icreated a lunch for school kids in the district. With the help of another man we collected good computers from company donations, overhauled them and gave them to 'old age to keep in touch with their families oversea Also teens beginning high school, in short we computerized 194 people.. I personally took in 7 young men and helped them finish their education.. Theyn have graduated every one and are now doing well.
When my own boys were growing up I organized baseball and hockey.
We took in tough troublemaking foster children and made them family. When my wife or I walked into juvenile court, Judge McNannimy smiiled. He knew whatever chld went home with him wouod never be seen in his co
urtroom again. We kept tem money the welfare gave us and gave it to them to begin a new life when they were ready.
I voluntered at the Vrdun-LaSalle YMCA as adiseer to youth groups. I started one called Crawford Park Youth Asssociation
that ran to 100 members and lasted ten years. My daugter was the last President. As a 14 yr old I volunteere to builld houses for veterans returning from WWII.
I did these things for people of all races and ages. My only judgement criteria was need.
I also went to war in Korea and fought in one of the most dangerous batles that Canadians ever faced. 70,000 Chinese attacked 1000 Canadians and we won outnumbered 70 to 1. look it up battle o f kapyong or hill 677.
How about this headline. Nancy Pelosi, speaker of the house says, “The republicans are a bunch of money grubbing Jews”. They cry for other people money just like Mr.Sauga.
*9So tell me what you've done that gives the right to judge me. Ed
Ed?
DeleteFROM ED
DeleteBrilliant comment, 'not so'. You must be he guy that posts "Wanna m,ake a country out of this-
Ed - Me, judge you? HAH.
DeleteYou really do have a short term memory, don't you. It was YOU, out of nowhere in fact, who posted a defamatory message about me. Not only judging me as a hateful person, but actually blaming the closure of this blog site squarely on me:
It was the seppie bashing that closed down our blog. You and three others drove the good posters away. James Wolfe and apple are two human beings full of hatred. They willl never change. I have never read them say a good word about anyone or anything
Do you expect me to remain silent, particularly as things here come to a close? I responding by stating there is no truth or basis in that statement (I've yet to see you share examples where I've posted racist or hateful comments of others) and shared some of your own comments, just to show just how hypocritical and detached your statements are.
I mean no sarcasm here, but good for you and doing those good deeds. I hope indeed you do more. Nevertheless, it does not give you the right to speak ill of others or make racist statements about any culture or race. Come on Ed, it's just like spewing a racist and hateful rant about African Americans but then saying, "Me, a racist against blacks? I'm friends with a black person! How can I be racist?".
Oh, and for the record, I am proud for my "seppie bashing" as you so put it. Or for that matter, anyone person or group that steps on the rights of others while proclaiming their so-called superiority. I do not believe any person, culture or race should have more rights and freedoms than any other. I will never remain silent or look the other way, so whenever I see comments like yours, you can be sure I'll speak my mind. I just want you to understand where I'm coming from, I'm not out on a witch hunt for you.
He's deluded Apple - will always be twisted about the status of our community here. Don't bother.
Delete@Apple
DeleteI really do agree with Cutie here. In regards to the individual you are addressing, he simply can't be rescued.
“The greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge.”

BTW, I know that everyone in Montreal can't do this, but for people who can afford to do so, you might want to book a vacation for Puerto Rico this time next year. They also celbrate the feast of St. John the Baptist as their big holiday, but to the best of my knowledge they don't leave people out who don't yet know Spanish.
ReplyDeleteThey can stuff the whole day as far as I'm concerned - who the hell do they think they are telling people what language they can speak on this day or any other. Only Ed would think this is acceptable. Bunch of bigots and criminals.
ReplyDeleteThat retard can fuck himself, and I'm not the only one to think it - check out the comments.
ReplyDeleteQuite a few folks are opposed to this Franco-supremacist's narrow world view.
FROM ED
ReplyDeleteSuch a shame Apple.
Your hatred of me almost supercedes your hatred of separatists. Ah well. You, Antidote and the mentally deranged Cuntie can do some Ed bashing. Give the blog readers a change from your constant one thought posts Last post for me. Bye all. may God be good to you. Ed.
You won't be missed by many Ed - just as you weren't when you were in the hospital. Try to find that "divine" blog that exists where all your old "intelligent" friends post - maybe they will be glad to hear from you. And the only deranged one on this blog, other than the separatists that you support, is yourself. As Apple says, Archie Bunker duplicate, no doubt. The problem is you don't see yourself as you really are: a two faced delusional bigot.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Ed. There's some Ed bashing going on and I don't understand it and I don't like it. He has contributed a lot to this blog. He just comes from a time when being politically correct did not exist. I remember some old uncles speaking the same way as he does, it doesn't make it right, but two wrongs don't make it right either.
ReplyDeleteSorry Laurie but he has insulted many, many of us on here over the past 20 months or so. For a lot of us, enough is enough. I realize that he is elderly and not in good health, but that is no excuse to be rude to us all the time. You can't discuss anything with the man - he resorts to insults rather than discuss. What he has contributed is what he remembers from a time long ago (and the way he remembers it) but that does not excuse his rudeness. I feel, at this point, that I have to defend myself against his attacks and I'm sure many of us feel the same way. I'm sorry that this upsets you but I will not let him get away with his insults without fighting back. He only knows us from behind his keyboard but judges everyone that does not agree with him. Just the way he is.
ReplyDeleteEd - The sad thing is you view things in a strange and distorted way, including my comments towards you. Yes, I strongly disagree with your points of view, particularly the way you prejudge others based on their race, ethnicity, skin color and now apparently gender too (based on your new nickname for Cutie). Hate you though? I don't know where you picked that up. I'm certainly not fond of your derogatory remarks against others here....disappointed, yes...disgusted, yep....hateful? nope.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome to give your opinions and points of view, ANY point of view, just so long as you don't resort to racial slurs and remarks. That's where I draw the line. You've sometimes had some interesting things to say in this blog but you should know when you've added in the hateful comments, it just undermines it.
@Laurie
ReplyDeleteLike you, I once defended that individual to another contributor because I felt sorry for him. As an elderly person, I believed he deserved and merited respect. I found out the hard way exactly who and what he is. I am sorry but the excuse that he's from another Time is inadequate, as excuses go, it's poor and lazy. He has smeared and disrespected many on this blog with vicious attacks. As a woman (I am assuming you are) take heed, as he has very little regard for Females. To be honest, I don't give a damn if he respects women or not, that's his issue and his problem. What is infuriating and unforgivable is that he has had the unmitigated gall to defend the resident trolls JUST to spite those of us he can't stand. Can you imagine being THAT stupid? Siding with those who's only objective was to see this blog shut down because of the shear antipathy and contempt he felt for people who called him out on his BS? What kind of an absolute moron do you have to be to defend elements of society who have rejected you, subjugated you and treated you as though you've been invisible for 40 years and who keep reminding you they will continue to do so, just because you feel you have to stick it to somebody (on a blog) you can't stand? Two wrongs do not make a right, but what that imbecile has pulled here, even now at the end, is indefensible. I doubt you'd be so manganous if he'd referred to you as "cuntie".
This blog is coming to a close, do yourself a favor and just let it be. That idiot never realized I, and the other legitimate contributors he routinely attacked, are not the enemy. But with people like him, a generation of appeasers, are we really surprised that despite being visible minorities, our Rights and Freedoms in this province have been grandiosely oppressed? Fortunately, even THAT era will be behind us soon. Today people are quickly realizing there has to be a push back. That is the reason "pastagate" went viral they way it did. We can take solace and great satisfaction in the fact that, going forward, our biggest weapon against the injustices this province tries to perpetuate on its minorities can be publicly and internationally exposed, for all to see and judge.
*manganous=magnanimous
ReplyDeleteDon't know if I can help you much ABSA but will give it a shot if you like. You know how to reach me. Might keep you out of trouble (as well as me) - lol. Yes, a blog without SR and/or student (not because they oppose federalism but because they contribute nothing) would be great with me. Michel, e.g., although a separatist, does have his points and I don't mind reading him at all when he posts. Student is just annoying, too long winded and SR adds nothing either with his silly comments.
ReplyDeleteI read the article, the dire situation the 3 veteran waitresses face notwithstanding, you cannot imagine, especially today, that just because you are loyal and work for a company for 30 yrs, an employer owes you a job for Life. Especially in this case where now new management has acquired the restaurant. One can't help but feel really bad for these ladies, especially since they seemed to have failed to plan properly for this stage in their Life, approaching their golden-age years, but y. barrette almost implies that because of there dire situation, (and never got an education to boot), and advanced in age, that now they are entitled to their jobs and the current employer owes them. Sorry, but business is business, I don't mean to play devil's advocate, but the new owner is entitled to do as he wishes. It is unfortunate, but that's reality.
ReplyDeleteIf anyone screwed these ladies over, it isn't the new guy, but the old guy/management/owners who failed in HIS loyalty to the ladies for their decades of service by ensuring they keep their jobs as a condition of sale. How come barrette didn't address that while he was busy bashing the new immigrant owner from Pakistan?
Geezus,
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry I looked in. I wanted one last look before clearing the blog from my computer but I find out it's all about me. I am being defamed by the same people who's hatred for the separatists
caused me to oppose them in the first place and with the same amount of vehemence.
Much of their anger comes because I strongly opposed their communication with the trolls. I also for the sake of our homeland asked them not to dis the Liberal party as I was fighting to get them elected for the sake of all of us. Some continued to use the expressions like “the party as corrupt as the others” in spite of the fact that there been no reason to assume this. The vehemence with which you attack me tells that I was right about your hatred and you have simply changed it from attacking separatists to attacking Ed.
Apple I owe you an apology. I realize that the reason I assumed you were hate filled is because you so often agree with Cute who is the apogee of hatred. I come here to find that I have been attacked out of a clear blue sky in a post that had nothing to do with me.
Cutie says, “who the hell do they think they are telling us to speak only one language. Only Ed would do a thing like that.” After doing something like this she accuses me of starting up.
Her constant language is full of hate towards the separatist people. These are simply french people who voted PQ. People who had been misled by professional criminal politicians. Should we also hate someone who votes for the CAQ because they are not pro Anglo.
I have not seen any separatist use the word pigs as Cutie does. These are human beings but being so wrapped up in their hatred these women see them as animals because they are trying live under PQ rules.
Cutie tries to make out that everyone is against me . She proposes to speak for everyone but only the two (Cutie and Anectote ) hav ever critisized me to a point more than disagreement. The posters we lost were strong people if they had something against me they would have spoke up. People fear them and Laurie has been one of the two that has said the truth. The other was Jason Holborn, a professional writer and movie producer. with no axe to grind on either side. Completely neutral he singled cutie out for her hatred.
So seppie bashing has turned to Ed bashing which makes me very proud to have ruffled some feathers, I thank you. You have restored my interest in the blog. Thank you Laurie for not being afraid
you should never be afraid of bullies. I lost all me fear in Korea and have never felt it again. After facing the Chinese army I sure as hell do not fear these big mouths.
I'M BAAAACK
You're "always back" - I can't recall just how many times you have left this blog only to come back with the usual garbage about being "attacked". Show me once where I called separatists "pigs" - another outright lie - fighting a cause is not quite the same as personally attacking people like you do and because I hate the separatist movement, does not make me hate anyone personally - again, you make a fool of yourself. That you're proud that you have "ruffled some feathers" by taking out your misguided values on people that are fighting alongside you in this battle against the breakup of our country, shows just how misguided you are. You don't even see just what a mixed up personality you really have. If anyone on this blog has followed your comments over the past 20 months, they can readily see how bigoted and prejudiced you really are. I remember when I first came on this blog and thought "what a nice man" - no longer, that's for sure. You're impossible.
DeleteI discovered through one of my social media feeds about a franco-Manitoban who feels that some franco-Quebecers look down at her because of her slightly-different franco-Manitoban accent, which led me to discover this video and wonder why Quebec nationalists are so easily prepared to abandon other French-Canadians in their selfish quest for a “Quebec nation”.
ReplyDeleteAcadian accents in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick as well as in the Burin Peninsula of Newfoundland may be somewhat more pronounced than those in Manitoba. Truth be told, I don’t even see why any franco-Quebecers would exhibit any snobbism whatsoever regarding other French Canadians, considering how poorly their own accent is perceived by basically everybody else in the world. Anyhoo, I thought some of you might enjoy this video (note that captioning is available via the CC button, if required).

"wonder why Quebec nationalists are so easily prepared to abandon other French-Canadians in their selfish quest for a “Quebec nation”.
Deletei don't understand how you can expect this ridiculous claim to ring any other way than hollow. if quebec separates they would be more than welcome to move in. if they choose to stay in canada, why would their life change at all if quebec is gone? won't canada be a good country for them anymore?!? you comment implies it won't. than how can you then argue that canada is good for quebec french canadians? do you understand the contradictions that your comment implies r.s? please sort them out for our community's benefit.
French-Canadians outside Quebec have no reason whatsoever to leave their homes and move to any another province, something which your comment indicates is a desirable course of action, in your humble opinion.
DeleteSimilarly, Anglo-Quebecers, many of whom have roots going back centuries in Quebec, have absolutely no reason whatsoever to leave their homes and move away from Quebec just because of your insecurity (nor for any other reason, especially in light of the near-daily insults that were made here by your celebrated colleague S.R for us “to take the 401” out of here).
@r.s
Delete"French-Canadians outside Quebec have no reason whatsoever to leave their homes..."
here you are negating french canadian culture has any value whatsoever. that is highly ridiculous.
but let's say your latest claim was just a little bit intelligent. it would still contradict the ridiculous accusation you launched earlier. in fact, if french canadians outside quebec had "no reason whatsoever" to leave their homes to resetlle in quebec, why would you see quebec separatists as ready to "abandon" anyone? you can't abandon someone who doesn't care about you.
this obvious argumentative flaw proves you're here to bash on quebec independance movement gratuitously and nothing more. why not try to write one good comment with no embedded contradiction on this very last post mate?
"Anglo-Quebecers, many of whom have roots going back centuries in Quebec, have absolutely no reason whatsoever to leave their homes and move away from Quebec..."
also very highly ridiculous, as your are denying any value whatsoever to happiness.
well it's limpid dudes. r.s was so bad for all these years because he doesn't value french canadian culture nor happiness. you gave the key at the last minute mate. well done, you were a tricky puzzle.
I’m just going to let the above comment stay out there for everyone to see forever and let it speak for itself, as a perpetual testament to the type of thinking that is required to be part of the dying Quebec nationalist movement.
DeleteHmmm… being a passive reader, I hadn’t been convinced that there were actual robots replying to the comments made on this blog, but seeing the absolutely nonsensical replies that were made today, I am now utterly convinced that this is what is actually happening. There is no other explanation possible.
Delete@r.s
Deletewasn't my comment clear? first you say quebec separatists would abandon roc francophones and then you claim roc francophones have no reason to move to quebec. it's like you're saying your egocentric son wants to abandon you when you're sick and then you say well there's no reason for you to long for his help anyways. non sense.
do roc francophones need quebec to be in canada or not? if they do it's because canada's not good to them. if they don't you can't claim quebec separatists "abandon" them. so which one is it mate? you have to make a choice.

ReplyDeleteIIf you have respect for me that you propose, get your feet on the ground. Where do you get off accusing me of being racist against blacks, homosexuals and Jews because of a few remarks but you my words worlds size and call me racist.
Son, I am the least racist person you could ever meet. my love is strong for every living being. God knows what's in my heart so leave judgement to him. You take a rermark and judge from that, that I hate whoever I mentioned. If I say something derogatory about a black person you right away think I hate blacks. The only statement I made about Jews was calling Mr.Sauga a money grubbing Jew. You have no right to take from that, that I hate all Jews.
