Thanks for the Memories....

For over four years I've written this blog in an effort to fulfill an inner desire to share some of my thoughts and experiences with you.

From a tiny following, the blog has blossomed, giving a small voice to a not so insignificant segment of Quebec Anglo society that the mainstream media doesn't seem to address. It has been, to say the least, entirely rewarding and I've kept going far beyond where I first thought I'd go solely because of the readership.

But all things come to an end.

With the election of the Liberals and the prospect of the PQ dim for the short and immediate term, there is less of an impetus for me to continue.

Can we as Anglos and Ethnics claim victory over sovereigntist forces?

Perhaps yes, but the real problem was never sovereignty, but rather the treatment of Anglos and Ethnics by all  Quebec governments.
It is sad to see that we continue to be viewed as interlopers, a people to be controlled not appreciated, an alien nation within the legitimate body politic of French Quebec.

Too harsh?
Nope, I don't think so. I continue to believe that if Quebec chooses to remain in Canada, it is simply an economic decision, the alternative of an independent and truly French Quebec a dream too costly and unrealistic for a generation whose real values include Facebook and Nintendo.

I remain convinced that if Quebec had the wealth of Alberta's oil sands, this province would have overwhelmingly voted for independence years ago.
It's really just about the money and when Quebecers finally realized how much money Canada lavishes upon them, the independence movement withered.

Such is the reality of our Quebec society, locked into a loveless marriage of convenience, forever unhappy and unfulfilled but financially comfortable, a difficult trade off to make.

As for myself, I look forward to the summer, sipping margaritas by the backyard pool, leaving the bitching and moaning to others, God knows, I've done my share.

To those who have been faithful readers and contributors I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your interest, friendship and lively conversation.

I would never have come this far without you.

and so I fade to black....

I'll leave the comments section open for a while and the blog itself open for research purposes.

Thank you all once again.....
PHILIP BERLACH

You've been a Class Act and we Thank you for your insights...always enlightening and inspirational. I must be honest I am profoundly disappointed right now but completely understand your decision. You asked if it is at all possible for Allos and ethnics to claim victory over sovereigntist forces, and the jury is still out on that one. This blog however, went a long way in containing their potential for damage by allowing people to convey the truth about this province, and exposing the raw and unadulterated reality that minorities are subjected to on a daily basis, and that mainstream media fails and is unwilling to tackle. That was the shear force and power of this blog. The second truth is that we must remain vigilant through every medium available to us today, especially social media, so that we can continue to contain the abuse our communities still endure.

Mr. B. I hope you reconsider and continue this very important work, it is essential and necessary for our future generations, this is no small thing! If you don't ...a sincere and heartfelt..Thank you!

(I can just see all the venomous seppies breathing a sigh of relief this morning....mmm).

This blog has helped us through so many bad times but I understand your desire to be "out from under" now that things are a bit quieter on the political front but please re-consider should the need arise again in the future! You gave us an outlet we would not have had otherwise and it is and was much appreciated! I will miss reading all the posts (except the trolls of course) and hope your contributors keep up the fight necessary to keep our country together. 7. Sadly, no matter who is in power in Quebec, the French only language bigots will not do anything for the English speaking community.

You have done your best, but the reality is, over 5 decades of anti – English language bigotry, racism, and hatred has continued and will continue…no matter who is in power in Quebec.

Quebec is a lost cause and the same french only bigots are doing the same thing outside Quebec…all in the name of this phony bilingual (code for French) BS spreading like a bad disease all over the country.

Congrats on all the good work you have done, all the best…

  8. I wonder if readers have considered just how good the EDITOR was with his predictions, almost all of them spot on.
Four months before the last election he gave us this post PQ Blows Its Chance in which he uncannily predicted that the Charter debate was over, that the PQ wouldn't win the election and that Quebec finances would soon be exposed as in shambles. All in just one post.
What other political commentator could do as well.

Someime in the early 70s, before I could vote, I heard P.E. Trudeau, then Prime Minister, state how good government makes for lousy television and vice versa. I guess the same is true for all media. Nothing like clowns and boobs to keep reporters clicking at the keyboard (or formerly putting pen to paper).

I had an uneasy feeling I was going to read an editorial of this sort before too long because Dr. Couillard is on honeymoon. I sincerely doubt he'll be the benevolent premier all Anglophones hope he'll be including a regular contributor with whom I have jousted many times over this.

Thanks for all the thought and energyyou put into this blog, and for bringing the best and worst out of me anyway, if not others. There is nothing I wrote in this blog I would take back, and I probably disclosed aspects of my life beyond others, but that's OK.

Enjoy the summer. We sure waited long enough for one, but your May was nicer than ours. Hopefully it will keep getting nicer.

  11. Mr. Berlach, I've really enjoyed your posts in the year or so that I've been reading them. You're a bit of an inspiration to me and I feel that the non-separatist community in Quebec still needs lucid thinkers like you to get the pro-Canada word out. Maybe your stepping back is a good sign, but your clear thoughts on the dysfunctional aspects of Quebec society are still needed.

I can't blame the Editor for closing up shop.

Personally, since the PQ was so brutally decimated in the last election and their prospects looking grimmer with what's left of their team (re: Lisee and Drainville as potential leaders) and an extremist like Beaulieu now heading up the BQ, the wind has been taken out of my sails too.

For the time being (that being the next 4 to 5 years), there really is very little to fight for.

We've run the rats out of town and now the focus must shift to a crumbling economy and infrastructure.

Thank you Phil for helping us vent and connect and network not only for the past four years, but most especially during the 18 looooong months that the PQ held power.

Looking back on it now, that 18 months was a necessary evil and I wouldn't change it if I could - it lead to something great in the end.

    Encore, merci.

    2. +1! It continues to be disheartening to see that even after all these years, Quebec separatists are even now emotionally resorting to the trite “Quebec-bashing” cliché rather than objectively disputing the facts as they have been presented and with which they claim to disagree. That is the foundational reason why they’ve always failed, even after so many decades of nationalism.

I am totally shocked and saddened that this blog will be ending. I don't think there is another website that is as instructive and insightful from the anglo Quebecer perspective than this one.
But there is a glimmer of hope that Philip will at some point come back to actively working the blog when he writes:
"With the election of the Liberals and the prospect of the PQ dim for the short and immediate term, there is less of an impetus for me to continue."
The Liberals, of course, are about 85% as separatist as the PQ is and 100% as human-rights-violating as the PQ is...so if this is Philip's standard of whether or not he will participate in the blog I have full confidence that sooner rather than later the Liberals will do something that will get his goat and he will feel the need to return.
And I am thankful to him that he sees the need to leave the blog open "for research purposes" and I would implore him to leave the comments section open always for this purpose as well.

    1. Interestingly, Tony, I figured you'd be the heir apparent under the circumstances considering you wrote an on-line book/exposé. Sadly, Howard Galganov changed subjects deciding to become an Obama basher. He went to great legal expense to fight for freedom of choice on signs in Ontario, let alone Quebec.

Then again, he has contributors in the U.S. who help defray the cost of his blog, probably to the tune it's helping him pay his rather ominous legal bills. Galganov was tagged for the government's cost of the fight and all court costs. That's sick, but this is the state of questionable freedom we live in.

Frankly, I'm hopeful Philip Berlach will come back, but he's tired too and has grandchildren to enjoy in New York, if not Quebec.

      Delete
    2. I do not envy how Howard has to figure out how to pay those legal bills which are in the couple of hundreds of thousands of dollars. My understanding is that an Ontario judge placed the ominous costs upon him in circumstances that usually see the state or others pay. Petty vindictiveness.

I'd love to do a blog like Philip's but (1) hard to do not living in Quebec where you really have to have your pulse on things in order to do it properly; and (2) no way I could come close to doing it as well or as thorough as he does (note the present tense "does" and not "did" because I hold out hope that he will tire quickly of his "retirement" and come back to the blogging).

I still hold to my prediction that the Liberals will soon be up to their old "nationalist" tricks and their as-bad-as-the-PQ language legislation which will eventually get under Philip's skin and he will return.

Funny, last time I checked the posters you mentioned were 100% opposed to racist bills such as 101, the charter of values and the OQLF.

They believe in everyone's right to live life as they wish, so long as no one gets hurt.

      Delete
    2. Yes, I'm the same Liam. Just thought I sign off with my last name for the final post of NoDogs.

Many Irish Quebeckers in Montreal and Quebec city did assimilate with the majority of French, since they were catholic. Although, with a large population of Irish moving during the Great famine, many homeless Irish children arrived in Quebec. The Catholic Church encouraged many from Montreal and Quebec City, and even from Beauce, Les Appalaches, and Lotbinière. Their is also many Irish settlers that came to regions, including a town in Appalaches County, called Irlande, because of the many Irish settlers. Even the hometown of my grandfather, himself Irish, who married a Francophone (who always wore red on Canada Day, and green on St Patrick and never voted for the PQ), still contained a few descendant of Irish.

Now Irish are an example were even many don't speak Irish Gaelic, many speaking just English, or in Quebec, French, their is still many Irish tradition. My grandfather would cook me some of my favorite Irish meal, including Dublin Coddle and Soda bread. Most Irish won't consider themselves assimilated to english or french, even with the fact none will speak gaelic. This is because most will view language and culture separately. Even myself, I have strong respect for french language being my mother tongue.

      @PAC

Sounds like YOU'RE 'fâché fâché' and I guarantee you ...you're the one with the stick up his ass, we can tell from here!

If you cannot understand and grasp that you are living in dire economic times in this province, corrupt to the core and practically penniless having to rely on handouts from the ROC because you insist on social programs you cannot afford and the preservation of culture and identity, at any cost, then ..you're pretty much an idiot. I don't say this to hurt or insult you, I state it simply as an observation, like when you see a kid stick his tongue to a pole in minus 30 weather ...for kicks, you look at him and say to yourself.."what a dimwit". With the last 40years, and what you've reduced this province to, you're all that dumb kid in minus 30 weather. We know none of this computes for you, but perhaps one day when the handouts stop and your economy has been officially flushed down the toilet like Greece, you can lay out your identity and culture on the table and have a morsel of that! Maybe then, the hunger pangs will speak to you.

Ontario is a mess as well and this is true, except the difference is there are bidding wars going on there for real estate. It's a little surreal that a property goes up in the morning and it's gone before sunset. Here, a house sits with an À Vendre sign forever. But I suppose you can't process THAT either.

Pease stop defending the indefensible. The message was sent out to you 'Loud and Clear' on April 7th that your position is no longer sustainable and the majority no longer want to partake in it. There is a reason for it and perhaps you ought to ponder that for a while...un conseil comme ça.

By REAL government, you mean the PLQ? Tread lightly, they've been worst than the PQ at times and more often than not, you can't tell them apart. I will, however..give them the benefit of the doubt for now with this new guy in charge, but one bloody false move, like re-introducing the charter nonsense, and they're done, the end..FINITO!

How sad, that as citizens of this province we always had to settle for mediocre provincial governments, who never did anything substantial for citizens. Please spare the "social programs", they gave you something you could I'll-afford, and when they finally pull these, it will be worst for those who have to go without, having known the comfort of going WITH. Better never to have had them, you can't miss what you don't know. But such is Life.

It was fun and interresting having a fresh and strong look to the anglo community of Québec from the inside. I have always been closer to minorities and more marginal groups, as well as people from other nations over the Internet, playing MMORPGs online. I always had the french look of everything in our politics, even though I wasn't close to my fellow quebecker. Main reason being I was a marginal at school. Now that I am part of the working force of the Province, I am proud to say that my links to minorities ans anglos help me daily.

That said I expect you'll be involved in the movement in one way or another, and while there will undoubtedly be a lull in developments for the next 4 years I fully expect there to be much to write about at the end of that time period, and you'll be well rested and ready to tackle the issues at hand. There's still so much more to discuss and bring to the attention of others in the near future through your writings. For example, the Liberals intend to resurrect parts of the PQ's Charter of Values, including tampering with the Quebec Charter of Freedoms and Rights in order to allow it to pass. The problem is Quebecers are living under a false sense of security under the Liberals, when it fact their rights and freedoms are just as much in danger as they were under the PQ rule. Perhaps even more so as they're so willing to blindly trust the Liberals.

And I strongly believe we've not seen the end of the PQ or the separatist movement. It's merely gone into a temporary slumber, but mark my words, it will all come back in just a few short years. Any chance at that point you might be persuaded to come out of your blog retirement then? :)

Oh well, I would have preferred less regular updates to this blog, even if postings were months apart, than to see it all come abruptly to an end. I'll certainly miss your writings and thoughts, not to mention the comments and discussions from others here (Mr. Sauga, Cutie, Cebeuq, Complicated, James Wolf, etc). Some of you might even want to consider starting your own blogs!

Nevertheless, Phil, I do respect what path you choose and want to thank you for all the years of writings. I've been around since the beginning and enjoyed them thoroughly, not to mention gained a great deal of insight from you and your readers!

It is precisely this type of thinking, from people who have been willing to shut up and put up, (specifically minorities), bending to every little whim for Fear of seppie retaliation and cowering rather than fighting back, that has put us all in a deep hole. I hope they (if they haven't already, eventually) realize the extend of the damage they've perpetrated and that all of us have had to live with.

Most especially, I hold ALL past (for now I will abstain from including the present) governments this province has had for 40 years for utter political mismanagement and complete ineptness. The PQ+PLQ have brought 40years of economic hardship and subjugation of Rights and Freedoms to this province and I for one will keep reminding everyone THEY are to blame for what's happened here. The dismal state of my beloved city, Montréal, which they have plotted to sabotage every chance they got, ....is completely on THEM. Going forward...Time is on the side of Right and Justice and both will prevail as the architects of all the wrong the rest of us have been subjected to for 4 decades, pass on (good riddance bad trash); It can't happen soon or fast enough. Future generations...intelligent, articulate and worldly..will know which path will bring the greatest success, and it won't be to hang on to false fears and 'small-town' thinking. The bullshit that brought down an international city like Montreal is indeed and thankfully ...one-generational and I believe that whole-heartedly now. The more I speak to young people the more I am convinced of it. The internet and now social media have been this province's Declaration of Independence from backward and repressive thinking. The Torch has been passed to a new generation of Forward Thinkers, who completely get that they must SEEK THE WORLD rather than reject it and this realization provides great solace.

I so hope you're right AnecTOTE - I'm fed up to the teeth with people thinking that any kind of appeasement to these militants is an answer to the problems that plague us and have for the past 40 years. I have to keep hope that people like Ed will fade away with time and that the young people will see where this type of repression of minorities in the province is hurting us immensely in too many ways to count - from immigration to our business communities abandoning quebec because of Bills like 101 and 14. All of this shit has to stop! NOW is the time Dr. Couillard! Let's get back to being Canadian and DAMN PROUD OF IT!

They've run out of money. When they began their little crusade, Montreal was thriving and provided $$$ for decades. But now, 40 years later, from pervasive corruption and political shenanigans, their cash cow is broke. They desperately need those transfer payments from Ottawa to keep their heads above water. Their bloody nonsense has hit a brick wall. If the ROC actually ever realizes and acknowledges this, the tables will turn so dramatically and drastically that even the heads of seppies long long gone and no longer with us will spin...and to all the quiet nationalists, the silent majority, who stood by and allowed the victimization to perpetuate on minorities, for 40 years, You're accountable...Take Heed, Justice is coming for you too.

THAT is how it will play out, my dear Cutie, I'd bet the Farm. For the time being, due to work commitments, I will be elsewhere. I am looking forward to a new place, new surroundings, new people, it's temporary but who knows. Quebec has to prove itself worthy for me to keep paying its taxes and for the moment, as far as I'm concerned, it's on Probation. That is how I look at it. My kid will get an Ivy League education where we are going, an elite athlete, she graduated with Honours, her shear dedication and hard work has paid off, ...so no worries there.

Remember JBG? He used to post here before, sometimes as Jason Bo Green or Jacques Beau Vert. I just discovered his own blog post from last year, describing why he stopped reading NDOA. He provides a pretty good summary of the Editor’s writing style, as well as that of some the regular contributors as they were then, including (*blush*) yours truly. It’s an interesting read:

He may be a nice guy and all that, but our struggle is not his struggle nor are his assets affected by what goes on here. Would certainly give me a different outlook if I were not living here just as Mr. Sauga has an entirely different take on our situation. Not that I don't understand how and why they feel the way they do, this is just more personal to those that live here.

  35. Separatists don’t value anglo-Quebec culture, nor its tremendous contribution to the growth of Quebec, nor do they care about whether English vanishes completely from Quebec because it will always continue to live on elsewhere in the world.

Separatists live in mortal fear that French might one day disappear from Quebec, something which is obviously never going happen, but use this argument to justify the trampling over everyone else’s rights. They also egotistically don’t give a hoot about the existence of French Canadians outside Quebec.

This phony fear of disappearing from North America is the gist of the human rights abuses in Quebec, yet of course the same argument that French will also always continue to live on elsewhere in the world should it ever vanish from Quebec falls on deaf ears.

The refusal to acknowledge this hypocrisy is at the core of explaining why Quebec often becomes an international laughingstock and an object of ridicule with its policies.

That is essentially the sum total of what I learned from the existence of this blog.

  36. My wife and I moved to Montreal from New York City a year ago after I quit my job with a top technology company. We came with 4 computer science degrees between us and startup money. We wanted to learn a new language (French - we have only rudimentary skills), and live in a new place. Over the past year we encountered absurdity after absurdity in Quebec. At times it felt like living through a Monty Python sketch. I found this blog after searching for information after one of those absurdities. Over the past year we decided that we don't have the appetite for this. Don't want to deal with a government and public service that is so openly hostile to a segment of a population. Don't want to have to deal with the language police. Don't want to have to hear "But this is Quebec!" as the justification for bullshit. We've been taking French classes, but I've concluded that no matter how fluent we become in French we'll never be considered real citizens of Quebec. We'll forever be interloping outsiders. We don't need this, I just wanted to learn some damn French and live somewhere different, not be part of an underclass fighting a culture war in a crumbling, dysfunctional city/province. Hilariously, we were going to buy a house when we just arrived (dodged that bullet).

We're fortunate enough to have some flexibility in where we live, so two days ago we packed up and moved to Toronto.

Editor, I've read your blog for the past year. You've provided a bit of reassurance that we weren't the crazy ones.

How do these people get re - elected? It’s obvious, take a close look at who votes for them.

"We don’t want the party to end, the “free” trips, expense accounts…perks, gold plated pensions, free this, free that…Yes indeed, see we in government, are all entitled to our entitlements folks and we can’t stop that, at least not until we retire. Our unions say so, it’s ours and we want it now...$$” Nice eh? See what working for government has become? Go look at all the debt mounting. Governments all across Canada, the US… have been on a hiring binge, a spending spree for decades now. Government = police, fire, hospitals, teachers, lawyers, crown corporations – Canada post, Hydro…= high salaries, bonuses, pensions, perks… all out of control for decades now = More and more debt…making the connection yet?

Decades of overspending…more and more debt, see what these people in government are doing to future generations?

Greed, greed and more greed... this is what runs Canada now. All government, all greed...every day…while the private sector gets gutted…thanks greedy public sector unions, scum of the earth, all of them… This is just a fact and it’s only gotten worse.

I'm grateful to the hospitality provided by you and the others to me in this blog. Too bad this is ending, but it is your life, not ours. Hopefully one of the other posters will catch the torch thrown from your failing but proud hands, and make it theirs to hold high.

A final word to the francophone nationalists who not only wish that Quebec was an independent country but also to get rid of all English speakers---Méfiez-vous ce que vous souhaitez. Vous risquez même de l'obtenir!

    2. Thank you for your interest in the blog and in quebec politics Mr. Cunningham. As an American, we appreciate that interest and the fact that you cared enough about your northern neighbour to at least give both sides a fair look see. You can now see where the faults lie and I hope you spread the word about our "Hilter" nationalists that live here and want to take this province and country on nothing but a downward slide toward total destruction. Spread the word far and wide - the more publicity this movement gets, the better for all of North America.

    3. If for nothing else, this blog has made me appreciate France.

No, I still do not like the Academie Française acting like every English word is an infectious disease, and I'm pretty sure that the language barrier in Paris is much steeper than in Montreal. But I would much rather read--or try to read--signs written solely in French than signs where French is twice as big as English. I cannot judge Paris versus Montreal, but I suspect that France overall is less parochial than Quebec. If I take the trouble to learn French and respect French customs--even if my French is not perfect---I think that I will be accepted and I might even be invited to become a French citizen with open arms. I get the impression from this blog that even if I were to learn French perfectly I would never be accepted as part of chez nous, which is why even French expatriates have a hard time here. Good luck keeping up the good fight, and I hope somebody else starts a similar blog because I doubt that this story is over anytime soon.

    4. Yes, Mr. Cunningham - we all wish this "story" was over but as long as we have at least 30% of the quebec population that believe they "know better" than the rest of North America how to live the "high life", we will have these problems. Reality is not one of their "strong" suits I'm afraid. I wish it were possible to remove them from our lives and let them live somewhere else, anywhere else, but they are scattered all over the place unfortunately. Anyway, I too hope that someone else will pick up the blog and carry on with a lot of us still participating, you included. It's been a pleasure.

  39. Mr. B,

I can understand your having enough of this. Was good you kept blogging through the election and I am sure the blog had some effect on the eventual demise of the PQ and Madame Marois & Company.

In any event, has been fun reading the blog and making the occasional post.

Have a good time and enjoy your time with family an friends.

In reality Quebec is pretty much done...and at the beck and call of the federalists who fund the equalization programs and welfare to the province. The new government can come out with whatever platform they want but at the end of the day Quebec is the proverbial "Emporer with no Clothes". The game is over and the ROC has discovered the fact that Quebec will never leave and all the past threats were just that ( albeit they just about made it in 1995). Macleans was right, the National Post is right, Even Barbara Kay is right on the situation in Quebec.

I suspect the treatment of Quebec by the ROC will change markedly going forward now that every body is informed that Quebec is a dog with rubber teeth.

And putting Beaulieu in charge of the 'dead" BQ ...what a joke and waste of taxpayer money

Thanks for all the good times reading the "to and fro" of no dogs.

    3. It’s not even a province holiday. St. Jean Baptiste Day is a French Catholic religious holiday, equivalent to St. Patrick’s Day. The PQ renamed it to the National Holiday, thinking that it would magically change into a civic holiday equivalent to the inclusive Canada Day, except that it would exclusively celebrate the Québécois “nation” that is aggressively hostile to English and English Quebecers. Non-Québécois Quebecers are welcome to celebrate the French-only holiday for Québécois Quebecers but virtually all non-francophones ignore the day, particularly since the organization of the holiday was taken over by the hardcore nationalists at the Mouvement National des Québécois.

In other words, the pleasant St. Jean Baptiste holiday has been turned into an awful hot mess.

    1. Ed -

As I've stated in the past, as much as I disagree with your opinions and often bizarre observations, I wish no ill against you. I will however not stand by as you put others down or make defamatory remarks about me which amount to libel. Please, I invite you to quote comments where I have written hateful comments about individuals on this blog. Oh, I certainly think very little of the PQ/Liberals, and the fear mongering and hateful politics of Quebec, and will always speak my mind about it, but I have never once targeted any groups, races or individuals. On the flip side I will not hide my disdain for Quebec's loathsome treatment of basic human rights, animal abuse and cruelty, anti-religious freedom and out of control corruption among other criminal acts that continue here unabated. Apparently to you, pointing out these injustices and wrong doings are hateful comments? Oh well, what can I say, this goes back to your bizarre observations.

Now, you, on the other hand, if you want to talk about "a human being full of hatred". Let's review some of your quotes, Ed, in recent weeks and months:

-" 'When it is his job to take a certain 6 foot 6 inch black girl to court and she is screeching 'You ain't taking this fuckin nigger nowhere mister and if you lay a hand on me I'll tear your eyes out and scream rape'. it gets difficult."

-"Ford is right the homosexuals are going to far. This in your face practice needs some boundaries. They are not more important thean the Olympicss. "

-"You give Jews and humanity a bad name. You are a money grubbing Jew."

-[The French Quebecois] "As a race there' no question they are generally low I.Q. It's like dealing with a bunch of kids, we have to deal with their handicaps.Do we dis mentally challenged generally, because that's what they are.."

Well....as this blog fades away, Ed, I do wish you well and good health. Though before we go our separate ways, please look over the comments you've made in the past and think long and hard about them and the impact they make on others. Think about who is really being hateful here and who is simply criticizing for needed change. If you really want to be open minded and caring in your final years, perhaps one day soon you'll learn to accept all people as equal.

Looking over my past comments as requested by Apple.
1 My grandson is a social worker that takes kids from Shawbridge Trainung school to,their dates in court.
He bought a new car to have dependency for this and took me for a ride in it to the place once called Boys farm where I used to work. The black girl attacked his face and called herself a fucking nigger. I am simply reporting what I saw and heard. Totally legit. My grandson grabbed her arms and talked gently to calm down. He held her in his arms until she finished screaming. Not a damn wrong with what I've said. Matthew loves the kids and I am very proud of him.
Ford was right about the homosexual community. They wanted to march at the head of the Olympic parade. Who the hell do they think thet are that they should put themselves ahead of the athletes that trained so hard to get there. Anyway I was quoting Rob Ford which is perfectly legit.
I don't know what your beef is with the French I Q. My God man everyone on this blog has noticed and said that at one time or another. I.Q. Are developed over time. If you don't get educated you don't get smart.
Mr. Sauga pissed me off wth his constant whining that transfer payments to Quebec belonged to him, (his money)- (Taking out of my pocket.) I have known others like this. Looking on the internet I find that Jews were persecuted in every European country . Not for their religion but for their business practices.
I'm proud of my work on the blog. I've used my knowledge of history and my knowledge of having been here back then to keep facts straight. I've fought against many of you to support the Liberals and save our homeland. I said from the beginning that the Liberals would win a majority.
Sorry Apple you can take my words out of context and twist them anyway you want but I still stand behind everything I've said. Ed

      Delete
    5. Ed - The fact that you have categorically denied each and every one of those statements as being racist, let alone even the remote possibility of them being offensive, speaks volumes for itself! Nothing has been taken out of context, those are simply word-for-word examples of what you've publicly shared on Nodogsoranglophones. No admittance, no apology--just excuses and flawed reasoning to cover it up.

Far worse, just one post above, your response to all those racist statements was: "no harm in telling the truth" (!!) It's even more bizarre that after stating that, you try and defend your statements as NOT racist just one post later.

What can I say, at least you're diverse in your hatred, there's no one specific group you've targeted. You've manage to cover hate and loathing of blacks, Jews, homosexuals and French-Canadians (and who knows what else I've missed!). Makes sense, if you have such a distorted view of reality when it comes to the Liberals and political situation in Quebec, then I can understand a distorted view on race and identity of human beings.

Oh, with regards to I.Q., that is something we are born with. Intelligence doesn't grow or diminish over time, it is just part of who and what we are from birth. Experience, knowledge and learning are built on top of that, and our capability to process, assimilate and make sense of and having an understanding of that knowledge hinges on that pre-existing intelligence we're either born with.

...I bring that up because you're telling me ALL French-Canadians are apparently born with a mental capacity deficiency. And that is offensive, highly offensive! You cannot per-judge a person's capabilities or capacity based on their race, language or color of their skin. That is what defines prejudice! Ditto for stating all persons of Jewish ethnicity are greedy and underhanded with money. This blog was all about equality, freedom and rights...rather ironic that you choose to hang around a place that goes against your values.

All I can say Ed, is you're a real life version of Archie Bunker. Sad, but remember it's never too late to change. That's a message that goes for all of us...

done in life or who I've done it for.
Have you ever dragged out of bed at 3am to help carry furnmiture from a burning building so people can save what lttle they have? I have many times. I also set up a system with landlords to use their empty apartment so that by morning they0 would have all they needed to send the well rested kids off to school. We supplied furniture and basic needs. I orgamized this through St. Willibroads Church in Verdun where I also started a soup kitchen and clothing center both of which are still going on today.
Att my own Church St. Athanasius Icreated a lunch for school kids in the district. With the help of another man we collected good computers from company donations, overhauled them and gave them to 'old age to keep in touch with their families oversea Also teens beginning high school, in short we computerized 194 people.. I personally took in 7 young men and helped them finish their education.. Theyn have graduated every one and are now doing well.
When my own boys were growing up I organized baseball and hockey.
We took in tough troublemaking foster children and made them family. When my wife or I walked into juvenile court, Judge McNannimy smiiled. He knew whatever chld went home with him wouod never be seen in his co
urtroom again. We kept tem money the welfare gave us and gave it to them to begin a new life when they were ready.
I voluntered at the Vrdun-LaSalle YMCA as adiseer to youth groups. I started one called Crawford Park Youth Asssociation
that ran to 100 members and lasted ten years. My daugter was the last President. As a 14 yr old I volunteere to builld houses for veterans returning from WWII.
I did these things for people of all races and ages. My only judgement criteria was need.
I also went to war in Korea and fought in one of the most dangerous batles that Canadians ever faced. 70,000 Chinese attacked 1000 Canadians and we won outnumbered 70 to 1. look it up battle o f kapyong or hill 677.
How about this headline. Nancy Pelosi, speaker of the house says, “The republicans are a bunch of money grubbing Jews”. They cry for other people money just like Mr.Sauga.

Do you expect me to remain silent, particularly as things here come to a close? I responding by stating there is no truth or basis in that statement (I've yet to see you share examples where I've posted racist or hateful comments of others) and shared some of your own comments, just to show just how hypocritical and detached your statements are.

I mean no sarcasm here, but good for you and doing those good deeds. I hope indeed you do more. Nevertheless, it does not give you the right to speak ill of others or make racist statements about any culture or race. Come on Ed, it's just like spewing a racist and hateful rant about African Americans but then saying, "Me, a racist against blacks? I'm friends with a black person! How can I be racist?".

Oh, and for the record, I am proud for my "seppie bashing" as you so put it. Or for that matter, anyone person or group that steps on the rights of others while proclaiming their so-called superiority. I do not believe any person, culture or race should have more rights and freedoms than any other. I will never remain silent or look the other way, so whenever I see comments like yours, you can be sure I'll speak my mind. What he has contributed is what he remembers from a time long ago (and the way he remembers it) but that does not excuse his rudeness. I feel, at this point, that I have to defend myself against his attacks and I'm sure many of us feel the same way. Like you, I once defended that individual to another contributor because I felt sorry for him. As an elderly person, I believed he deserved and merited respect. I found out the hard way exactly who and what he is. I am sorry but the excuse that he's from another Time is inadequate, as excuses go, it's poor and lazy. He has smeared and disrespected many on this blog with vicious attacks. As a woman (I am assuming you are) take heed, as he has very little regard for Females. To be honest, I don't give a damn if he respects women or not, that's his issue and his problem. What is infuriating and unforgivable is that he has had the unmitigated gall to defend the resident trolls JUST to spite those of us he can't stand. Can you imagine being THAT stupid? Siding with those who's only objective was to see this blog shut down because of the shear antipathy and contempt he felt for people who called him out on his BS? What kind of an absolute moron do you have to be to defend elements of society who have rejected you, subjugated you and treated you as though you've been invisible for 40 years and who keep reminding you they will continue to do so, just because you feel you have to stick it to somebody (on a blog) you can't stand? Two wrongs do not make a right, but what that imbecile has pulled here, even now at the end, is indefensible. I doubt you'd be so manganous if he'd referred to you as "cuntie".

This blog is coming to a close, do yourself a favor and just let it be. That idiot never realized I, and the other legitimate contributors he routinely attacked, are not the enemy. But with people like him, a generation of appeasers, are we really surprised that despite being visible minorities, our Rights and Freedoms in this province have been grandiosely oppressed? Fortunately, even THAT era will be behind us soon. Today people are quickly realizing there has to be a push back. That is the reason "pastagate" went viral they way it did. We can take solace and great satisfaction in the fact that, going forward, our biggest weapon against the injustices this province tries to perpetuate on its minorities can be publicly and internationally exposed, for all to see and judge.

  62. Don't know if I can help you much ABSA but will give it a shot if you like. You know how to reach me. Might keep you out of trouble (as well as me) - lol. Yes, a blog without SR and/or student (not because they oppose federalism but because they contribute nothing) would be great with me. Michel, e.g., although a separatist, does have his points and I don't mind reading him at all when he posts. Student is just annoying, too long winded and SR adds nothing either with his silly comments.

  63. I read the article, the dire situation the 3 veteran waitresses face notwithstanding, you cannot imagine, especially today, that just because you are loyal and work for a company for 30 yrs, an employer owes you a job for Life. Especially in this case where now new management has acquired the restaurant. One can't help but feel really bad for these ladies, especially since they seemed to have failed to plan properly for this stage in their Life, approaching their golden-age years, but y. barrette almost implies that because of there dire situation, (and never got an education to boot), and advanced in age, that now they are entitled to their jobs and the current employer owes them. Sorry, but business is business, I don't mean to play devil's advocate, but the new owner is entitled to do as he wishes. It is unfortunate, but that's reality.

If anyone screwed these ladies over, it isn't the new guy, but the old guy/management/owners who failed in HIS loyalty to the ladies for their decades of service by ensuring they keep their jobs as a condition of sale. How come barrette didn't address that while he was busy bashing the new immigrant owner from Pakistan?

  64. Geezus,
I'm sorry I looked in. I wanted one last look before clearing the blog from my computer but I find out it's all about me. I am being defamed by the same people who's hatred for the separatists
caused me to oppose them in the first place and with the same amount of vehemence.
Much of their anger comes because I strongly opposed their communication with the trolls. I also for the sake of our homeland asked them not to dis the Liberal party as I was fighting to get them elected for the sake of all of us. Some continued to use the expressions like “the party as corrupt as the others” in spite of the fact that there been no reason to assume this. The vehemence with which you attack me tells that I was right about your hatred and you have simply changed it from attacking separatists to attacking Ed.
Apple I owe you an apology. I realize that the reason I assumed you were hate filled is because you so often agree with Cute who is the apogee of hatred. I come here to find that I have been attacked out of a clear blue sky in a post that had nothing to do with me.
Cutie says, “who the hell do they think they are telling us to speak only one language. Only Ed would do a thing like that.” After doing something like this she accuses me of starting up.
Her constant language is full of hate towards the separatist people. These are simply french people who voted PQ. People who had been misled by professional criminal politicians. Should we also hate someone who votes for the CAQ because they are not pro Anglo.
I have not seen any separatist use the word pigs as Cutie does. These are human beings but being so wrapped up in their hatred these women see them as animals because they are trying live under PQ rules.
Cutie tries to make out that everyone is against me . She proposes to speak for everyone but only the two (Cutie and Anectote ) hav ever critisized me to a point more than disagreement. The posters we lost were strong people if they had something against me they would have spoke up. People fear them and Laurie has been one of the two that has said the truth. The other was Jason Holborn, a professional writer and movie producer. with no axe to grind on either side. Completely neutral he singled cutie out for her hatred.
So seppie bashing has turned to Ed bashing which makes me very proud to have ruffled some feathers, I thank you. You have restored my interest in the blog. Thank you Laurie for not being afraid
you should never be afraid of bullies. I lost all me fear in Korea and have never felt it again. After facing the Chinese army I sure as hell do not fear these big mouths.

    I'M BAAAACK

    1. You're "always back" - I can't recall just how many times you have left this blog only to come back with the usual garbage about being "attacked". Show me once where I called separatists "pigs" - another outright lie - fighting a cause is not quite the same as personally attacking people like you do and because I hate the separatist movement, does not make me hate anyone personally - again, you make a fool of yourself. That you're proud that you have "ruffled some feathers" by taking out your misguided values on people that are fighting alongside you in this battle against the breakup of our country, shows just how misguided you are. You don't even see just what a mixed up personality you really have. If anyone on this blog has followed your comments over the past 20 months, they can readily see how bigoted and prejudiced you really are. I remember when I first came on this blog and thought "what a nice man" - no longer, that's for sure. You're impossible.

  65. I discovered through one of my social media feeds about a franco-Manitoban who feels that some franco-Quebecers look down at her because of her slightly-different franco-Manitoban accent, which led me to discover this video and wonder why Quebec nationalists are so easily prepared to abandon other French-Canadians in their selfish quest for a “Quebec nation”.

Acadian accents in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick as well as in the Burin Peninsula of Newfoundland may be somewhat more pronounced than those in Manitoba. Truth be told, I don’t even see why any franco-Quebecers would exhibit any snobbism whatsoever regarding other French Canadians, considering how poorly their own accent is perceived by basically everybody else in the world. Anyhoo, I thought some of you might enjoy this video (note that captioning is available via the CC button, if required).

i don't understand how you can expect this ridiculous claim to ring any other way than hollow. if quebec separates they would be more than welcome to move in. if they choose to stay in canada, why would their life change at all if quebec is gone? won't canada be a good country for them anymore?!? you comment implies it won't. than how can you then argue that canada is good for quebec french canadians? do you understand the contradictions that your comment implies r.s? please sort them out for our community's benefit.

    2. French-Canadians outside Quebec have no reason whatsoever to leave their homes and move to any another province, something which your comment indicates is a desirable course of action, in your humble opinion.

Similarly, Anglo-Quebecers, many of whom have roots going back centuries in Quebec, have absolutely no reason whatsoever to leave their homes and move away from Quebec just because of your insecurity (nor for any other reason, especially in light of the near-daily insults that were made here by your celebrated colleague S.R for us “to take the 401” out of here).

"French-Canadians outside Quebec have no reason whatsoever to leave their homes..."

here you are negating french canadian culture has any value whatsoever. that is highly ridiculous.

but let's say your latest claim was just a little bit intelligent. it would still contradict the ridiculous accusation you launched earlier. in fact, if french canadians outside quebec had "no reason whatsoever" to leave their homes to resetlle in quebec, why would you see quebec separatists as ready to "abandon" anyone? you can't abandon someone who doesn't care about you.

this obvious argumentative flaw proves you're here to bash on quebec independance movement gratuitously and nothing more. why not try to write one good comment with no embedded contradiction on this very last post mate?

"Anglo-Quebecers, many of whom have roots going back centuries in Quebec, have absolutely no reason whatsoever to leave their homes and move away from Quebec..."

also very highly ridiculous, as your are denying any value whatsoever to happiness.

well it's limpid dudes. r.s was so bad for all these years because he doesn't value french canadian culture nor happiness. you gave the key at the last minute mate. well done, you were a tricky puzzle.

    4. I’m just going to let the above comment stay out there for everyone to see forever and let it speak for itself, as a perpetual testament to the type of thinking that is required to be part of the dying Quebec nationalist movement.

wasn't my comment clear? first you say quebec separatists would abandon roc francophones and then you claim roc francophones have no reason to move to quebec. it's like you're saying your egocentric son wants to abandon you when you're sick and then you say well there's no reason for you to long for his help anyways. non sense.

do roc francophones need quebec to be in canada or not? if they do it's because canada's not good to them. if they don't you can't claim quebec separatists "abandon" them. so which one is it mate? you have to make a choice.

IIf you have respect for me that you propose, get your feet on the ground. Where do you get off accusing me of being racist against blacks, homosexuals and Jews because of a few remarks but you my words worlds size and call me racist.
Son, I am the least racist person you could ever meet. my love is strong for every living being. God knows what's in my heart so leave judgement to him. You take a rermark and judge from that, that I hate whoever I mentioned. If I say something derogatory about a black person you right away think I hate blacks. The only statement I made about Jews was calling Mr.Sauga a money grubbing Jew. You have no right to take from that, that I hate all Jews.
You blo2w things out of proportion but still think you have the right to judge. Ed
