PQ's Magical Mystery Tour

"Roll up,
WE'VE GOT EVERYTHING YOU NEED
Roll up for the mystery tour.... Roll up!,
SATISFACTION GUARANTEED,
Roll up for the mystery tour.
The magical mystery tour is hoping to take you away,
Hoping to take you away... take you away!!"

I have to say, if Pauline Marois is nothing else, she is predictable.
Her latest sovereignty 'push,' announced with much fanfare is actually just another cynical ploy dedicated to deceiving the weak of mind and the ideologically over-committed.

When one considers her actions, in light of her true motivations, which is to  retain power at all costs, it makes certain sense to engage in another silly round of loud sovereigntist chest-thumping.

Like jogging, where the object isn't to get anywhere, but rather to exercise, Pauline's sovereignty push is not really an effort to re-animate the moribund project of sovereignty, but rather to satisfy the militants who demand action.
As they say "busy hands are happy hands!"

And so Pauline hopes to tire them out in a useless bout of sovereigntist exercise.
Her new push should be nicknamed Sovereignty 5BX, a tiring stand in place, go nowhere program which uses up a lot of effort and doesn't cost a lot.

To dedicated sovereigntists, Pauline Marois' announcement that her PQ government  is undertaking a new and robust campaign to promote sovereignty is perhaps music to their years, but I'm not sure that they are entirely fooled, so naked is the deception.

To that end, they will be utilizing Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, a decidedly low-cost approach.
Let us consider that one television commercial on a top-rated French TV show can garner up to two million views while an internet infomercial promoting sovereignty will be hard pressed to hit 10,000 views and all of those views are likely to come from dedicated hardliners.

At any rate, Pauline has launched the campaign with a speech worthy of  Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, cherry-picking a few facts to make the point that Quebec is done wrong by Canada.
Her argument is so glaringly infantile that only the delusional can swallow it.

Telling her minions that Quebec is being short-changed because the big ship-building contract was given to the Maritimes, she actually said that had Quebec gotten that same $20 billion money to invest, they wouldn't need equalization payments! Link{fr}
Think about that statement....
She is actually telling the audience that if Ottawa gives Quebec money, Quebec wouldn't need any money from Ottawa!
It makes as much sense as Robert Mugabe telling his followers that ;
“We don't mind having sanctions banning us from Europe. We are not Europeans.” Link

I'm afraid that there are more of these type of pronouncements that we can expect, patent nonsense, this from our Premier who is fast becoming a Mugabesque buffoon.

How's about this Pauline gobbledygook about the bothersome subject of university and college tuition fees;
“For me, indexing means a freeze because indexing means that with the cost of living increasing from year to year, if we freeze without indexing, we reduce tuition fees,” Marois said. “We have to be clear on that.”
Marois said she wants “a balance,” to reduce student debt and make university more accessible.
In a tweet, ASSÉ, the Association pour la solidarité syndicale étudiante, which has called for free tuition, replied to the premier.
“The freeze on tuition fees its not indexing. Pauline Marois should open a dictionary!” Link
It would be funny if not so sad......

  2. OK, I went to the news via the internet and heard about Drummondville. So Pauline tells the tall tail of their website stuff being pro-Québécois without dissing the minorities. Yeah, sure...how long before it deteriorates into yet another pro-Quebec fed and Anglo bashing project, just like it has for the last 35 years?

  3. FROM ED
It's high time we start aiming our comments at professors of French Universities. These people know the truth, if they don't they are not smart enough to be teachers. Implore them to tell the students the truth at least about the economy. Perhaps reach someone with a concience in the Teachers unions or school boards. let's direct letters to key people in the school boards and teachers group. Are their any PTA's we can reach? Ed

    4. In Quebec we having been talking for decades incessantly about separation from Canada (no news to anyone reading this blog). However that is all it is. Just talk, threats and disguised hatred.

Had we voted 60% in favour of separation in the 1995 referendum, we would still be, on February 11, 2013, a province of Canada.

The separatists have never really put the cards on the table and explained to Quebecers exactly what they are voting for. Have any of the following issues ever been properly discussed and a conclusion reached:

National debt: How much would Quebec inherit from Canada? Would it be in proportion to the population (about 23%)? A percent of Quebec's economic output ever since the debt was accumulated? Zero (the debt was taken in Canada's name, not Quebec's)?

How would the natives be treated? Would they lose their status and simply become Quebecers? How would their land be treated? What would happen if the natives all voted to secede from Quebec? Would this be respected? If yes, what about all the other regions of Quebec that would want to secede?

Military: How would Quebec defend its borders? Would everyone love us some much that we could do without an army?

Trade with the rest of Canada: Would it be "Business as usual" the day following a unilateral declaration of independence?

None of these issues have ever discussed and if they were there would be a civil war inside the ranks of the separatists because they all have their own vision of what the country of Quebec would look like.

The most the separatists will ever accomplish are the following:
Diminish and humiliate the Anglo Imperialists. Mission 90% accomplished with bill 101 .
Ethnically cleanse Quebec of its English colonizers: Mission 33% accomplished. However like any species surviving a mass epidemic, the remaining ones tend to be immunized and more difficult to eliminate.

In the long-run, the mission of the separatists and language zealots is racist in nature and only meant to humiliate one group in front of the other. Like any such regime, it is not sustainable in the long run. Eventually the perpetrators will realize what they are doing and find their own acts distasteful. Slavery ended in the British Empire not when a bunch of African slaves complained hard enough, but rather when the white British population could stomach it no more and demanded its abolition.

The moral of story here is that the separatists are waging nothing more than a hate campaign and there will never be a country based on these principles. As soon as their supporters know this, they will start reflecting on themselves and abandon the project (that's why support never goes past 35-40%). The way to accelerate this process is to tell your francophone friends how destructive this project is on both a social and economic scale and let them do the rest.

    5. 73 (Part 1 of 2): Quebec benefited from some of that "national debt" so they must take the bad with the good. If they don't, they don't get to be part of NAFTA. Unanimity of the NAFTA members is required to join NAFTA. Canada can hold out until Quebec obeys. BTW, the italicized Canada, like in Reed Scowen's book represents Canada without Quebec.

I imagine Canada will, as much as politicians allow, will be business as usual. Why would that change, unless economic sanctions are imposed on one side or the other? We're all going to eat and buy other goods and services no matter what. I would imagine sanctions being imposed by Canada if Quebec doesn't meet its end of the responsibilities. Inevitably, there will be some businesses hurt by separation. The Quebec dairy industry would pretty much lose half its business as Quebec has about ahlf of the dairy industry through political manipulation in all of Canada. Quebec separates, then other provinces are going to protect their own farmers unless Quebec makes it economically feasible to export its own milk and butter. Anti-dumping laws would prevent Quebec selling the excess it used to produce at ridiculously low prices. Oka cheese and other specialty products need not worry because, unless politically motivated to boycott, or through sanctions, people will still eat Oka cheese.

Ethnic cleansing? That would be cutting off Quebec's nose to spite its face. Forcing the minorities to leave will only erode Quebec's tax base more than it already is, and with all its domestic debt (i.e., excluding Canada's own debt) at the current levels, Quebec can't afford to do that. It's not to say they won't do it anyway, but that would only be to Quebec's own detriment.

PET, when he was PM, himself said Quebec will have to speak more English should it separate because 350 million people are not going to speak French for the accommodation of 6 million people. There inevitably WILL be political backlash in Canada towards French remaining an official language in Canada when there are more Chinese and Spanish speakers than French speakers in Canada. Spanish may gain prominence for there are almost as many Spanish speakers in the Americas as English speakers, and Portuguese in Brazil contains about 20 times the number of French speakers in the Americas.

      Delete
    6. 73 (Part 2 of 2): The notion of Bill 101 protecting the French language is nothing but a farce, and always has been. So is all the other language crap surrounding all this. An attempt at assimilation into English was made by Lord Durham almost 175 years ago and that failed miserably. Back then, there was no TV, radio, telephones, internet or texting and while there were newspapers, what percentage of the population was illiterate?

Today, the literacy rate is much, much higher and anyone who doesn't have some sort of means of instant communication is the exception on this continent; furthermore, we don't hold our "betters" in esteem the way we did back then, so if anyone tried to pull another Lord Durham, you know the rebellion would happen in minutes and be over and done with in days if not hours.

The moral of your story is spot on, but unfortunately, as mentioned somewhere in here or on the previous blog, the schools and their pro-union, pro-separatist teachers are cranking out a new generation of brainwashed separatists.

I say encourage separation because we'll see how far Franco Quebeckers are willing to go when push comes to shove. I'm more than willing to put it to a test, and perhaps the first step is what Harper is doing to seasonal EI collecting bums, and the next should be to eliminate equalization payments to Quebec, or bring them down to the minimum required by the Constitution if there is a constitutional obligation to make them. I think Harper, for sure, should deduct what Quebec CAN do to help itself, such as oil exploration in the Gaspésie, and fracking where oil deposits exist. Quebec has plenty of minerals in the ground to be mined, and that should be taken into consideration. Hydro rates are artificially low in Quebec and should be raised to market rates. Any shortfalls should result an equal reduction in equalization payments.

Equalization payments in Quebec are a game, a game to squeeze as much out of the federal system as is possible, and as a Quebec-born, raised and educated citizen, I am a loyal Ontarian now and my interests lie with Canada and Ontario.

Laurie is right, THEY are a bunch a f..hypocrites’, the Americans accommodate in business by speaking their language, and that’s a good thing, it’s good business, according to them, but then they turn around and put up little signs up that say, “Ici on commerce on Français”, basically telling people to go f...themselves.

We have to partition this place and, as someone said on one of the other threads, get rid of the cancerous tumors that are invading our life - cut them out so we can survive and thrive again - let them go on their way and live the way they want without dragging us down with them to the bankruptcy they are headed for. Those areas that vote to remain Canadian do so and we can have a bilingual province within Canada with security and stability for the first time in 40 years. Americans, Western Canadians, Europeans, anyone and eveyone who will listen. Their laws are discriminatory and dangerous but, most who post on here, even the seppies, know that. Keep up the good work regular posters. Word is getting out, so is this website. The day is coming.

  15. “For me, indexing means a freeze because indexing means that with the cost of living increasing from year to year, if we freeze without indexing, we reduce tuition fees,” Marois said. “We have to be clear on that.”

Does this make any sense to anyone at all? “We have to be clear on that”??? This woman does not understand the difference between indexing and freezing… and we are trusting her with the future of our province!

She is determined to drive Quebec into the ground while pretending to save the French language and make everyone live in fear.

Meanwhile, the rest of Canada has gotten fed up with 40 years of phony threats from the PQ while sending $billions to Quebec every year. Readers of the National Post, for example, are being played like a fiddle by the PQ. They have stated that their strategy is to create “chicanes” (fights) wherever possible, so Marois simply has to stir up some imaginary “emergencies” among her hardcore loyalists in Drummondville, which results in the rest of Canada says “You know what? Take your debt and don’t let the door hit your behind on the way out”; and then that way, Marois can turn around and say, “See? What did I tell you? Canada hates us.” What an evil woman!

  16. Yes Mr. Sauga - everything you say is true. They want to declare independence before they spend on cent on the natural resources they have in quebec so they don't have to share any proceeds with the ROC plus they want the equalization payments to piss the ROC off so that they will be glad to throw them out of confederation. All part of their plan for independence and then they won't give a shit about the environment and will tell the truth to their followers that they need the money to keep the province from going bankrupt. Probably why the PM just keeps dishing out the money - he's caught again between a rock and a hard place but I wish they would get their act together and "out" the plans of the separatists to the whole world. This would put a different slant on everything and the environmentalists that believe them right now would see the light about their true agenda.

    ----------
..That is, he is both the minister (Alexandre Cloutier) who is ostensibly supposed to improve relations with the rest of the country, and the minister who is supposed to destroy them.
Still, under the circumstances, even a flawed strategy is the best Marois can offer her party.”

      "Great piece!

Very nice to see The Gazette finally admitting that Quebec's presence in Canada is an anomaly, that it goes against gravity, that its like trying to fit pieces together that are just not meant, and were never meant, to fit together.

The only hope for the ''federalists'' is to prevent reality from asserting itself, and it is doomed to fail. One day or the other.

As for potential conflicts, I absolutly trust that our Canadian friends will eventually oblige. The contempt and despise for Quebec in the ROC is absolutly immense (and obscene to be honest), its just that Quebecers are not aware of it. The 2 solitudes plays in the hands of the federalists.

To me its totally foolish to think this can last on the long run, its not a matter of ''if'', its a matter of ''when''."

You can always check it out from the last link I provided if you want to see comments before and after. One seppie says something like "just try it and watch the option to separate go up". I personally would like to see the PM do this and let the chips fall where they may because it never, ever ends - the blackmail, the money, the socialism, the deliberate elimination of the english language, and everything else they stand for. Bring it on and let's see how many of these idealists back their stupid asses down.

Parliament and the government of Canada have the power to do so tomorrow. The vast majority of Bill 101 depends on the shared belief that a province has a constitutional power to legislate the public, collective use of language and to regulate the use of language in trade and commerce.

Parliament could pass an Act to give effect to section 52 of the Constitution Act, 1982 and overturn as inconsistent with the Constitution (as the 1982 Act defines it) all the jurisprudence based on inventions of the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council in London that perverted, distorted and turned upside down the clear language and intent of the 1867 act's distribution of powers and its granting of Crown sovereignty to Canada alone.

The 1867 Act gave exclusive overriding power to regulate anything falling under trade and commerce to Parliament, notwithstanding anything else, but it is only because the JCPC chose to ignore the wording of the Constitution that provinces (in accord with jurisprudence but against the clear wording of the Constitution) have been legislating on trade and commerce within their boundaries, and Quebec has been doing so to regulate the use of language.

The act also gives the provinces power to legislate over "generally all matters of a merely local or private nature in the province". This generally extends their legislative power to anything that is merely local or private (whether mentioned or not elsewhere) — except if it falls under a listed power of Parliament — but also acts as a general restriction on what a province may legislate on. If something is not *merely* local or *merely* private in the province, then the province *can't* constitutionally legislate on such a matter. The English and French languages define communities that extend beyond any single province, and furthermore everything that Quebec has tried to do to legislate on their use extends beyond the merely private: it's an attempt to engineer *collective* identity and collective, *public* behaviour. (Quebeckers will immediately recognise the phrase "the common public language".)

So by the Constitution at least, Quebec has no legal power to legislate over these things. And if Parliament passed a "Section 52 Act", invalidating the jurisprudence that substitutes judges' personal biases and opinions for what the Constitution actually says, then vast segments of Quebec language legislation would go "poof!" upon royal assent. It only takes a government and parliament with the same kind of guts shown by the PQ and QLP and the provincial assembly in Quebec.
