Is Duchesneau a Game Changer?

First things first.

I'm not going to endorse anybody or any candidate in this election, because firstly, it isn't going to affect your vote and secondly, it would only alienate those whose who disagreed with my choice.
It would also colour how readers viewed future posts as perhaps tainted or prone to giving a boost to my preferred party.

I remember when Charlton Heston became president of the NRA (National Rifle Association) the chief lobby group in America, promoting guns.
I sort of felt betrayed by his activism and never viewed his movies the same way.

Truth be told, there isn't anyone who excites me and there isn't any party seemingly worthy of my vote. In that respect, I'm sure many readers agree with me.

And yes, readers know that I have a friendship with Jean Charest that precludes me blasting him in public when I disagree with his policies, as I do more often than not. Enough said.

But yesterday the shoe dropped on the Quebec Liberal Party and the Parti Quebecois in the name of Jacques Duchesneau, who despite Marois' and Charest's brave faces, may represent an election game changer.

For months if not years, Quebecers have been looking for a Messiah to deliver them from the evil clutches of cronyism and corruption.

I haven't seen any survey, but I'd bet that if Quebecers were polled as to which election issue is most important, corruption would be the number one answer ahead of the economy, sovereignty, environment or taxes.

In one fell swoop the CAQ has energized the campaign and become a legitimate contender, not only to take more seats, but actually win the election.

Despite the brave faces of Marois and Charest, there is gloom and doom in the back rooms of the Liberal and PQ headquarters.

In his introductory press conference, standing beside a beaming Francois Legault, Duchesneau was absolutely breathtaking as a candidate, both humble and confident while fielding reporters attempts to trip him up with aplomb and verve.
I'm not talking him up, he will be a spectacular campaigner, from what I saw.
He's grown a humble and self-deprecating aspect to his demeanour that Quebecers love in their politicans, the same quality that won René Lévesque the hearts and minds of most francophone Quebecers.

Am I a fan?

Yes. I've known Jacques from the time he worked as regional commander up in the Cremazie station in Montreal and have worked for him and alongside him in a variety of charitable endeavours.
Is he the real McCoy? Yes he is.
He is undoubtedly the very best man for the job of public security minister, honest brave and fearless.
You can take my word on that, I have nothing to gain.

Remember when he was accused of being a crook by the real villains, those who had much to lose by Duchesneau's leadership of the corruption investigation?
The guilty along with the collusion of unscrupulous journalists planted all sorts of false allegations in the Journal de Montreal, which to its shame, printed a front page story accusing Jacques of election fraud and placing his picture among a gallery of alleged crooks.
It was, in my opinion, the darkest hour of the tabloid.

I told you then, before any other blogger or journalist dared, that he'd be vindicated, because I know the man.

Read my post; The Assassination of Jacques Duchesneau -Mob Mentality Sweeps Quebec

Am I doing exactly what I said I wouldn't, that is endorse a candidate?
I'll make an exception for Jacques, the first and last time I'll do it, I promise.

By the way, this in no way, shape or form means that I endorse the CAQ, too many questions linger.

So it now seems that  Quebecers have a legitimate choice between the same old, same old, or Left, right and now, 'Mr. Clean.'

It just may be that Jacques will overpower Francois Legault in the media spotlight, and for the CAQ, that may be a good thing.

For Madame Marois and Mr. Charest it may be time to be afraid, it may be time to be very afraid.

Watch the polls, the CAQ may get up to a ten point jump within a week or two.
If they don't, Quebecers were never serious about their complaints about corruption.

On another note...

I had a chance to review the Quebec Solidare election platform and if you are interested in a good laugh, download and read it, unfortunately in French only. Download the Platform

SPOTLIGHT CANDIDATE OF THE DAY

By the way, I'm just starting to review the candidates from all the parties to report on stuff that the mainstream media has no time for.

There,  right off the bat is my favourite nutbar BILL CLENNET who as you can see in his campaign poster got all dressed up for his photo shoot.

Mr. Clennet is an lifetime activist, who is best remembered for being the beneficiary of the famous Shawinigan Handshake, administered by one Jean Chretien when he got too close to the Prime Minister.

Watch a video of the incident here. YouTube

Clennet is an old-time activist, militating for the 'downtrodden'  who has about as much chance winning his Hull riding as does Howard Galganov.

Good Luck to another Poteau!

A personal Olympic note:

I haven't been a keen viewer of the Olympics, somehow it hasn't lit my fire.

But I wish to congratulate Canada's ex-pat Jamaican community based largely in Toronto and  Montreal on the superb Gold and Silver performance of Usain Bolt and Yohan Blake, in what is perhaps, the Olympics most important medal.

Jamaica is not a 'big' country, not a 'wealthy' but rich in culture heritage and pride.
Many Jamaicans came to Canada for economic opportunity, but retain an attachment to the old country that is 'sans pareil!'
For a country of just 3 million to win both gold and silver in the most prestigious race is an accomplishment without comparison.
Be very proud, we Canadians share you happiness!

  1. Actually La Marois literally ran away from questions about Duchesneau at her press conference today.
I will go out on a limb and say this hurts the PQunt more in the long run. They have spent so much time playing the holier than thou card on corruption and now their biggest weapon has been taken away!

Okay Ed, now I know you've been smoking. The man practically oozes cockiness, talks out of his ass, and it's pretty obvious that he has an authority problem... when he isn't the one in authority. I don't care that you and he are friends; the man has a hard-on for destroying Charest at all costs. To be frank, a sleazy ex-cop masquerading in yet another puritanical political cloak isn't what Quebec needs.

Like all the others in this race whining about "integrity", the only entity Duchesneau is visibly interested in helping is his own.

And to talk about the self-deprecating aspect Quebecers supposedly like in their politicians is ludicrous in an election campaign where individual political opportunism reigns supreme as candidate after candidate has thrown their narcissism into the ring:
Léo Bureau-Blouin, Duchesneau, Duchesne, and Lisée.

Ohhh the pomposity will flow like water and our province won't be the better for it.

The cherry on the sundae would be to see a showing as bad as the Bloc had in the federal election last year.

    2. No one is as bad as JF Lisée
Lisée has always struck me as a pompous snoot who cherrypicks facts to support his own half-baked conclusions. That the separatists hail him as some great intellectual has always been baffling to me.

If anything what makes him "dangerous" is his ability to moonlight as a smartypants rather than his non-existent ability to actually be one.

      Delete
    3. What makes him so dangerous is that he seems to have an awful lot of people fooled. He‘s a very sinister man.
I too hope to see the PQunt fall lower than they did with Andre Boisclair. If it means a Caq government, then so be it.

    4. To the above detractors of the PQ: Never mind this Lisée clown. If Princess Pauline loses, and she probably will, you can observe her fellow piranhas turn on her and do what the strong do to the weak: Eat her! With perhaps the exception of René Lévesque, every leader since Lévesque, from Pierre-Marc Johnson through Landry and Boisclair, has been devoured by the party faithful. Why should this time be different? The trouble for them is, who's left? I think she's the last of the Old Guard, much like Contantine Chernyenko was to the Communist Party in the old Soviet Union.

The next péquiste leader will have to take on the role Mikhail Gorbachev did--an overhaul of what separatism in Quebec really is, unless the CAQ can cause them to disband.

    5. I don't think there was ever any doubt about this being Marois' final go. It's kind of ironic that after all these years of being in bed with the mafia (via public unions), the Parti Québécois has embraced their tendency of "whacking" those who don't come through.

One thing I pretty much guarantee is that in the wake of Marois' dispatching will be a nasty, nasty war between, Lisée, Drainville and Pierre Duchesne. My only question is, which one of these chest-thumpers will adopt little Léo as their Anakin.

BTW, folks, don't forget to keep putting pressure on Bureau-Blouin to give us a soundbite for this video: bit.ly/NcoUp2

Don't just let him get away with it.

    7. Is that a lilt of sarcasm in your keypunching, App? To answer your question, time will tell, and why shouldn't it be the PQ's Glasnost or Perestroika? The Old Guard, with the exception of Boisclair, was living through the Quiet Revolution, so they were witness to the full transformation. The Boisclairs and younger generations only read about it in the French school literature that insidiously lied about Quebec history in dem days.

      Delete
    2. Bourgault's statement oozes of hypocrisy, considering that it's coming from a French speaker.

      Delete
    3. Whenever I hear Bourgault's quote I'm reminded of the fact that Quebec Nationalists have done absolutely nothing at all to protect and defend aboriginal languages in Quebec - languages that are really threatened, unlike French.

      Delete
    4. So Quebec allows the Natives to teach their children in their own languages. How accommodating.

Quebec has not passed any laws at all to protect or promote aboriginal languages...certainly nothing like Bill 101 with regards to French.

      Delete
    5. We hold QC to a higher standard than other provinces. QC is a self-proclaimed beacon of linguistic diversity, where dedication to languages is a high priority, where the zeal for languages is radiant and beams around the world.

You can't yap about winning a 100m dash at the Olympics, lose the race badly, and say that your neighbor Jacques didn't do much better (he didn't even run). Jacques never said anything about running, never expressed interest, never committed to it. You did.

      Delete
    6. Jacques's position is bad, but so is yours. You're still falling short if you put actions relative to words. If you're yapping and doing little, and not yapping and doing nothing, it comes out to the same thing, or even to your disadvantage. So in absolute terms QC might be doing more for native languages than the RoC (I don't know if that's true but for the sake of this argument I'll take your word for it and assume it is). In relative terms, when actions are juxtaposed with declarations, it's falling way short.

QC is concerned with linguistic diversity but only on a large scale (North America, world). To assure that, it believes in linguistic fascism on a small scale ("small" languages need to be crack a whip vs. the one arbitrarily labelled hegemonic). These two concepts are very hard to reconcile, they are essentially contradictory and depend on arbitrary definitions of diversity and hegemony, and arbitrary decisions as to what size territory is large enough to contain diversity, and what size is small enough to crush diversity. What size is small enough to allow hegemony, and what size is too large to combat hegemony.

If North America was French, would Bourgault redefine the size reference? Would diversity be measured on global rather than continental scale? Is QC really so humanitarian as to want to enforce some continental-scale or world-scale or macro-scale diversity? Or is that just an excuse and a justification for a local-scale, province-scale, or micro-scale fascism? I'll let people decide that.

      Delete
    7. @ Yannick,

"It's more than other provinces do to promote the native language, no?"

What evidence do you have that this is true?

There was an article in National Geographic magazine in July regarding endangered languages around the world. On a global map, several languages in Quebec were listed as threatened but were not named outright. I would hazard a guess that they were all aboriginal languages and not French.

      Delete
    8. So you're saying that aboriginals in other Canadian provinces don't receive any schooling in their native languages?

Here's an example. In the Nunavut territory, Inuit students receive some of their education in the Inuktitut language.

  9. What offends me about the video?

    1. First, that whole thing about the beaver pretty much sums up the contempt that sovereignists of all stripes have for not only for Canada, but also the global anglo community. What's worse is that they're trying to court leftist-federalists and then turn around and put out that video. Of course, if you visit Twitter you'll find apologist sell-outs like ‏@EthanCoxMtl, stating how funny the vid is.

    2. Second, I can't stand leftist arrogance. The entire socialist model is built on leeching off the system and taxing those who've put in the blood, sweat and tears to get their businesses going. So when I see neo-communists being cheeky and arrogant, I take offense. They have no conceivable idea what their lives would be like if the "evil capitalists" suddenly pulled up their stakes and abandoned La Belle Pro en masse.

Hell, to this day, some highly profitable chains like Popeye's Chicken refuse to set foot in Québec and with good reason.

I mean when you see the PQ saying they'll siphon every last cent they can get from the natural resources industry, you see they clearly have NO UNDERSTANDING of the way in which this industry works and the inherent risks that come with exploration.

Without going too deep, I guess you can say that I can't stand arrogant little pseudo-leftists hating on the very hand that not only feeds them, but also pays their iPhone bills.

In fact I was speaking with an American colleague yesterday and told him that a good number of my fellow Québécois hate me on the grounds that as a fracophone, I mastered English and made it in the American world. I am a sell-out according to them..."Un ostie'd'vendu!!"

    1. What OQLFS.R-Doug-Nutt was trying to say is this

Corruption in Québec must be stopped...but in order to stop it, you have to tackle this problem like you would attack a weed: you need to tear out its roots to ensure it doesn't come back.

See, the Parti Québécois is so fucking obsessed with sovereignty that they embraced a "separation by any means necessary" stance, which we all know opened the door to the present day corruption we're all fed up with.

PS - Be sure to check out @MichelLaurence on Twitter and what he has to say about Labrador.

I mean face it - most of the corruption comes from where? That's right...the construction industry and who works closest with the construction industry...yup, the unions that back the PQ without reserve or question.

So with all that being said, eliminating the sovereignist presence in our midst is the only chance we have of eliminating corruption.

If Jean Charest's PLQ forms the next government, I hope he uses the next four years or so to create an anti-sovereignist team that clearly points out how useless and counter-productive the whole movement is.

We all know that Pauline Marois is toast once she loses, and that the PQ will tilt closer to extinction at the prospect of being out of leadership for an entire 13 years, but we have to be proactive and accelerate their decline in popularity.

Since the sovereignists have tendency to search for any little tidbit they think they can exploit into a scandal, I think they should be given their own medecine.
Oh, and you know what tidbits I'm referring to:

"Ici Bernard Drainville - we have held this press conference today to inform you that Christine St-Pierre, the very minister charged with protecting our French language, ate an English muffin for breakfast. And not only did she eat an English muffin, but we believe it was a corrupt muffin because it was produced by Bread Co., who's owner once held a church picnic in a park where Tony Accurso's third cousin Luigi happened to walk by...more details to come."

    4. Harvey have you seen the new PQunt video and Jonathan Kay‘s take on it? Seriously you have to be one incredibly insecure, depraved and culturally starved individual to get off on this shit.

    7. Pure Hitler-youth style propaganda.

But hey, you gotta love how Pauline Marois, as of this morning decided to embrace a new turn in her campaign: http://www.lapresse.ca/actualites/elections-quebec-2012/201208/07/01-4562958-les-liberaux-menacent-lidentite-quebecoise-dit-pauline-marois.php

First, she fucks up and says she has no regrets about the Gaspesia affair...which the wind blew right back in her face.

She then let it slip that Jean Charest is anti-Québécois and would destroy the culture of La Belle Pro. That slip was better received and she was told to keep running with it.

So I guess that's it...she's letting Duscheneau have the anti-corruption card and she's now going to take the KKKard.

Man, these elections are making me crave some Popeye's.

Anyone else in for a bucket?

    8. Yeah its fucking scary, when she looked up at the sky it reminded me of the early shots in “Triumph of the Will.“ this obsession with identity is just plain scary. If the PQunt loses on September 4th it will be a good day for humanity.

    10. Well just like the PQ commissioned the creation of Liberaux.net, why doesn't someone set up a site dedicated to The Real Pauline Marois?

Besides, more and more, I keep hearing how many sovereignists don't know who to vote for because they simply don't identify with Marois. And let's face it - that's one of the reasons the separatist movement is floundering under her leadership.

I mean, the movement's largest base is found in the lower-working class...people with a low income, little education and who don't care for the idea of traveling outside of LBP. When they see a "high falutin" queen of a woman with designer duds and a castle in an English part of Montreal, it's quite easy to see where the disconnect lies.

    11. This is why I think Legault benefits. He has impeccable seppie credentials and he doesn‘t speak with that same gross-me-out hatred that La Marois and her friends speak with. So the disillusioned seppie vote+soft nationalist vote could be his.

  22. The PQ and the QS both promise to enforce Bill 101 as it was implemented in 1976. Does this mean they will ignore all rulings from the Supreme Court? It wonders me how they are campaigning their programs as if there Quebec does not have a superior jurisdiction. Even if they do not want to acknowledge Canada, the fact remains that Quebec is but a part of Canada and the law system of Canada prevails over Quebec.

  23. You can earn $20 for completing a 20 minute survey!

Guess what? This is exactly what large companies are paying me for. They need to know what their customer needs and wants. So large companies pay millions of dollars per month to the average person. In return, the average person, myself included, fills out surveys and gives them their opinion.
